I personally haven't - but my sister has and you're right about the rust thing at least. Some of the things they did when they designed the car were moronic - the oil filter is directly above an axle boot, so unless you cut a milk jug especially to cover the boot, the oil gets on it and the boot's life is drastically reduced. I used to change her oil for her and when she got the Saturn, I did it twice before I told her I wouldn't do it anymore, it was too much work. I could change the oil and grease any of our other cars in 20 minutes, her's was an hour minimum. Not to mention there was no way to avoid getting completely covered in oil.
It was devised when "Chevy" was a dirty word in the minds of most people as far as reliability was concerned so that GM would have a small car to sell to the people who were snapping up Civics and Carollas as reliable and comfortable point A to point B cars. The idea was to emulate the Japanese as much as possible. Unfortunately, the execution was well off and the Saturns turned out to have severe problems with fit and finish, and the drivelines were incredibly un-refined when compared to their Japanese targets. In almost any review of a Saturn before the very late 1990's you will find mention of a noisy interior and a buzzy engine.
