Chevy Cruze is built there, looks like every other car out there. Has good mileage and good ratings

MSRP: From $16,975
MPG: Up to 31 city / 47 highway

But as you noticed gas prices are getting close to $3 and they are saying gas will go up at least 15% more over the summer. Glad all the young bucks I work with bought mega trucks, for looks.

Gas is only around 2.50 per gallon where I live. As for the Cruze, it is a nice car, but list price doesn't tell the whole story. At least in my area, the Malibu is much more heavily discounted,
and actual selling price is very close between them. It also faces stiff competition from the Corolla, Civic, and Mazda 3. Corolla has more standard safety features and is extremely reliable, and the Civic and Mazda are perceived as more sporty.

Yea, still not expensive enough to drive compact sales, IMO, especially since midsize cars also get very competitive mileage. I used to favor compact size cars, and they are now very nice, but I just bought a few year old midsize car that I got used used for less than a new compact, and really like the extra space. And I still average around 30 mpg overall in mixed driving and 40+ on trips.

apparently cruze sales haven't been very good, which is a shame because it seems like a solid car.

Not shit! Where is Dave and the drive for $5. I got no raise, no bonus, work for a non profit hospital, costs of benefits went up, and now it's more to drive to and from work. I can't stand much more winning. I kid you not...

This might be difficult for you but pretend 0bama is back in the WH and gasoline prices are rising. It's OK now right?

You're still a dumbass for staying in that job but with a little pretending, you can smile as you're filling your gas tank!

In 2012 the average price was $3.62 per gallon. Good times.

Is that a job we can turn over to automation? Is he a sucker for having a job or is it just *that* job? Every single person who is going to rotate into that job is an idiot for doing so? Who will do the job then? Robots? Are you high? Ooooooh its the "non profit" part of hospital you are grinding about. Please dont breed.

No, only those that complain about their job for years and never have the balls to move on.

I like it when you make assumptions about what I'm thinking and then post about it. It's so very progressive of you comrade.

If I was in the market I would absolutely get a Corolla over a Cruze. Toyota gives you all the new safety goodies like lane departure while Chevy charges extra. And obviously I would expect the Toyota to last a lot longer.

100% of the blame can be placed on those stupid 'real people' commercials
No, it's 100% on people buying SUV’s and Crossovers. Sedans aren't selling much anymore no matter how good they are because gas has been fairly cheap for a while. Once gas goes back up again all these people buying larger vehicles, they will be in the same situation everyone was when gas went up a decade ago, rushing to get rid of their large vehicles for smaller more efficient vehicles.

this is the plant that made the crappy cavalier, and cobalt. Cruze is much better than both of those vehicles though. Sucks that people are losing their jobs though.

Yeah I just heard Honda is cancelling the Civic and Toyota is cancelling the Corolla.

Wait what?

I guess when uber drivers don't even want to buy it, you know it's bad.

Don't be too concerned. These workers have arguably the best layoff benefits known to man. They also have transfer rights should they choose to move in order to work at another GM plant. Their benefits cover them for many, many months and perhaps even years. They will be receiving a huge percentage of their regular 40 hour pay while sitting at home.

And the OP only thinks he knows the situation. One shift layoffs are done all the time at GM. When demand drops layoffs ensue, when demand rises shifts are added back. While I haven't read anything specific, there may be a new model in the works that would entail retooling the plant. GM has got the number of plants under their umbrella down to a bare minimum which means a rise in demand for another car line could result in some production being moved to this plant. Flexible manufacturing has been practiced for many years. A number of plants manufacture different models on the same assembly line.

When the benefits of these workers run out, that's when it's time to have sympathy. But the thought that a one shift layoff is a death knell is some kind of morbid fantasy. It's business as usual.

^^^Funny thing about Republicans in that its okay for everyone else to lose just as long as it isn't them and when it is then all hell breaks loose.^^^
