Gm recalls another 7.6 million vehicles, models going back to 1997

you just had to push it that much further... I'm sure there are a couple that have been reliable, decent MPG... ok I can go with that, roomy? sure, comfortable, not worth arguing, but good looking? not a chance.

I can stereotype the typical grand prix driver.... yeah, they think their cars are much better than they actually are.

this whole recall thing is a joke in some regards. every since the toyota recall situation, these things have gotten out of hand. in this situation, it's a joke they took till now to recall cars from 97... though I agree, how many are really still on the road 😉

Meh, it's all in the eye of the beholder so to speak, I like a few of the early Pontiac's but then again they got really palsticky after awhile. Keep in mind this was a division of GM that actually made and sold the Aztec, upon seeing one I thought GM had a drug problem on their hands, how could anyone not view that car as the most fugly vehicle ever is beyond me. Funny thing is, mechanically they have not had any major issues at all and are reliable..

I really liked the look of the 97-2002? grand prix. It was mean looking, nice trunk, the lines flowed well, and it rode well also. It was a nicer looking car than the 95-99 maxima which I would argue was the closest competitor.

In fact, I'm looking for one of this era as a first car for my son. They are virtually indestructible and with the HUD are pretty nice.

GM 3.8 is a very reliable motor. Avoid the supercharged one.

So the total number of recalls for GM is over 20M at this point. Am I seeing that correctly?

That's pretty sad considering that GM sales since 1998 for the US was only about 61M.

I always found the supercharged one to last longer honestly. Pretty sure they beefed up the internals on those. Great performance from them.

Yes, forged internals and a few other headflow mods to support additional HP. Also upgraded the trans. It was a well thought out combo. I agree that they performed well.

The problem lies in finding a good one on the used market. More likely to find a cream puff naturally aspirated grand prix or regal. Parts are more readily available and cheaper too.

To each their own, but buying and old GXP for your kid seems like a hassle best avoided.

Ditto.

Supercharged is better, plus, it doesn't have the plastic intake manifold that would warp on the N/A ones.
