why? "Oldsmobile couldn't shake the image of a frumpy car for older folks." (from Car and Driver).

Don't you think if they had changed their name, their image might have changed also? I mean, if you are trying not to look like a old person car, then why would you call yourself Oldsmobile?

It's okay Olds is just a bunch of Grills and Stickers now anyhow.
All GM chassis are shared. I don't even know why they have GMC, Slap a Chevy Grille on it and it's the same thing. Well Accept for the new HD's the GMC's Hood is WAY nicer then the Chevy

For some platforms this is true, but not for all. And BTW, most large auto companies have shared platforms. It's not like it's a bad thing, in fact it helps keep costs for the customer down, esp. repl. parts.

And for some education, the real reason Olds went under is that Olds was the "target" of both Honda and Toyota when they made their big push in the U.S. in the 80's. The reason it was their target was because Olds as a division was looked upon as the premier car division, Olds dealers had the best reputations and ratings, and Olds just happened to have the number one selling car in the U.S. No small wonder they targeted the Olds division.
