GM makes it official: Holden will build the new 2004 Pontiac GTO (w/pic)

Cool, can you get it with a tail as an option 🙂

Isn't the Holden basically a Grand Prix + Firebird LS1 engine?

This car is RWD, the Grand Prix is FWD...completely different platforms.

Wow, the 5.7Liter, V8, LS1? That's the vette engine alright, but I wonder how much that car will cost? It seems they are trying to make that car inbetween the performance of the Camaro/Firebird and the Vette.

We need some American muscle BACK!

Well, this is the last year for the Camaro. If/when they bring it back, it will be FWD.

Actually, no. It will use a cheaper variant of the Sigma RWD platform that is under the Cadillac CTS.

When did this happen?

<-- Glad to be wrong. 🙂

You don't really think that GM would be dumb enough to bring the Camaro back FWD do you?? 😀

The plans to use the Sigma platform have been around for at least a year or so. The decision is either to use the Sigma and strap a live axle out back, or to use a less sophisticated rear suspension design/geometry to cut costs.

The Sigma platform is going to get A LOT of play in the next 2-3 years...

I like Pontiac's new style with soltice and GTO. I hope it's a permanent trend towards less plastic molding🙂
This car is supposedly an M5 killer 😀 We'll see.

Not bad - it is slightly dull in its styling but at least it is not burdened with 100 square feet of cladding like most Pontiacs, or dreadfully overdone like the last-gen Firebird.

Dyam... impressive. I'm not a big fan of American muscle, but this is totally different from what I've seen in the past. Kind of sleek and smooth... hmmm. I guess the Mustang is the only one that still has the slightly boxy feel to it? I mean that last gen Camaro.. kind of ruined the whole thing... why do those headlights look so... German?
