The affected models are all 2009-2013 CTS-Vs and all 2012-2013 Camaro ZL1s.

According to the automaker, the engine's supercharger may not be functioning properly, causing the unit to develop a noticeable rattle noise at idle. The noise will normally go away when the engine revs start to rise, but the problem, if left unresolved, may lead to contamination of the internal shaft bearing grease and cause the bearing to squeal over time. This could lead to the bearing overheating, which in turn could cause the engine to seize or simply fail to start
.
General Motors Company dealers will replace the supercharger at no charge. As The Car Connection points out, this is a significant savings considering the fact that the supercharger alone is $2,095 and labor runs anywhere from 5 to 7.5 hours to do the job, according to GM's parts & labor guide.

Owners also receive a Special Coverage Adjustment for the problem. This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle is sent in to receive the new supercharger, regardless of ownership.

That's good they are making it right. Mind you its not a lot of cars in the grand scheme of things.

Many car companies to this day will not admit issues everyone knows about. My Titan had bad axle seals and Nissan would not fix/cover it for example. Well known issue on Titan forums.

Other GM issues notwithstanding, this is FANTASTIC support for an issue that has been identified. Considering that people who purchased these cars paid a pretty significant amount of $$$, I would expect no less in terms of support. The 10 year warranty is frosting on the cake, for the whole deal.

If I had a 2009 or 2010 CTS-V, I would actually be pretty happy.
-New SC (check)
-piece of mind around this issue for 10 more years (check)

:)

LOL. ZL1 owners have been complaining about this ever since the car came out. Turns out to be a really shitty coupler between the drive pulley and the rotors. GM said it was designed like that and in spec.
Other Companies made an aftermarket solid coupler to fix this. So after years of bitching they decided to do something about it.

This is the part:

This is what happens when that spring rattles on the shaft it fits over:

What happens if you already had it fixed, or had a disaster?

Usually in cases like that you provide proof that it was repaired/failed due to that issue and they will refund.

On the phone with them today.

Go in next Friday for diagnostics of the issue, but it's pretty easy to hear on mine. Been that way since 6 miles on the odometer.
