GM cars fob (remote) question

Can one program an fob (remote) of one GM vehicle for use with another GM vehicle but of another brand considering they use the same protocol?

My stock CTS 07 fob is in craptastic condition and to add to that it looks generic, old and and can not be distinguished from almost any other GM fob remote out there.

Though I would have really liked to get swap it out for the STS fob remote, that's not possible because the STS uses a different protocol.

However, I saw the C6 corvette fob and it looks and feels much much better. I have reason to believe it might work, so what I would like do is swap the current generic fob I have for the C6 fob:

Would that be possible?

You might be able to buy a replacement fob for some other vehicle and just mod yours to fit. If you take yours apart (insert a coin into the notch and turn -- I used to have one just like it), you'll find it's just a PCB with a battery and a couple of dome switches. The STS and the C6 fobs that you linked seem to be pretty much the same layout with minor aesthetic changes. The door lock and unlock buttons ought to come pretty close to lining up with no modifications. As long as the PCB physically fits into the new casing, you ought to be able to make it work through a series of tiny levers and/or wires. Maybe not all 4 buttons, but at least the main 2.

If you were really that gung-ho about it, that is.

This man here has a good point.

Honestly that was the first thing that I gave a thought. It wouldn't be very hard to modify the CTS fob pcb to fit other fob cases, but I really wanted to leave that as a last resort.
