I can't see how anybody can be excited by epsilon platform vehicles for Cadillac. GM needs to position Cadillac against BMW and Mercedes, not Audi or Acura. And they sure as hell can't do that by sharing platforms with 2 other brands.

Thumbs up for the Sportwagon V, though. At least they have the CTS lineup to offer something exclusive.

Mike can you repost the article from Autoblog. The site's blocked from work.

VW and Audi share platforms
So does Ford and Volvo. And GM and Saab. And Honda and Acura. How many of those, including Audi, would the average Joe put in the same league as BMW and Mercedes? This isn't an issue of quality or performance. It's about public perception.

so do Lexus and Toyota...

How much does Joe Public even know about platforms and the vehicles that use them? you think most people have WAYYYY more knowledge than you believe...

I agree. Even somebody that does their research when car shopping probably won't know or car what platform its built off of. They'll read a few articles, look at Edmund's and maybe consumer reports. They'll be more interested in reading about how it drives, its options, its overall price to own (purchase price, maintenance, mileage, etc), and how it looks. If it looks good, drives how they want, and gets good ratings they'll like it. They'll probably never know what other cars share the same platform.

As for the new cars from GM, they've got an awesome lineup in the pipeline. I think if they had been making cars like this a year or two ago they wouldn't be in this mess right now.

Article that mentions the G8

At least Lexus has its own RWD car platforms aimed squarely at BMW and Mercedes.

Maybe you're right and I'm giving the average person too much credit. Misinformation travels quickly. Why give the car rags any reason whatsoever to bitch about your car?

The alpha platform was put on hold a year ago when gas prices went through the roof. It was originally destined for the small Caddy and Pontiac G6. Hopefully they restarted it for the ATS.

as of this, so does GM, the Sigma which underpins the CTS, the Alpha which underpins the ATS. As for the Flagship sedan, those people really dont care what wheels drive it, only how amazing it looks on the inside and outside...

If they're going to use an existing platform why not just use zeta like they originally planned like 2 years ago. I agree with Falloutboy. It's a shame they canned DT7.

while were on the topic of platform any speculation on what that riviera is based on? looking at its size i'm thinking maybe alpha as well maybe a stretched kappa?? or could be delta but I would be very disapointed tbh (would remind me of the chrysler crossfire too much)

I'd say Audi is in the same league as BMW and Mercedes. I'd buy an Audi over Mercedes any day.

I remember reading an article on it the ATS is based on a larger version of the platform that the sky and solctice are based on, with some CTS similarites if I recall. sad thing about the XTS is that they had a reardrive platform in development by holden for it called the DT7 which was canned.

*EDIT*
Alpha Platform:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Alpha_platform

*EDIT*
also I beleave the delta platform car cady is getting is the converj (spelling?) if its made, its based on the volt which is delta

ah crap.. i did mean alpha... not delta... my bad, delta underpins the upcoming Cruze, and other variants...

Nevermind...I was confusing Alpha with Kappa. If they do use the Alpha...then I'm excited.

Well, no one will actually say what platform the ATS is on, however, the CTS will be fully redesigned from the ground up... so Theoretically, the ATS could be riding on an all new platform which will also underpin the future CTS.

the XTS is said to look like the Cadillac Sixteen concept.
