This is for NE US but other areas may apply too:

I think this was announced today - anything that does not sell or guzzeles gas - Tracker, Trailblazer, Tahoe can be now be had for $5G less, if you have cash. Or very favorable financing.

Check it out here.

$5000 off Suburban. Very tempting and great deal if you're in the market for a new car.

Took delivery of my Trailblazer EXT LS last Saturday. My GM card allowed 2,250 points + 1,000 additional points for Truckfest.

:) If so, like popeye44 said, they're a day late. "Take delivery by June 1, 2004."

I was looking at the Avalanche a few months back. Really cool design, IMO. But when gas prices started heading up, that kinda killed it for me. Doesn't look like they'll be going back down anytime soon, either, if ever.

Ditto. I really don't want a gas guzzler right now..... if ever.

That's the same way I feel about compact cars. I will never drive compact toy cars if I can help it. I will gladly pay few bucks more for gas so I can ride in comfort and safety.

Yeah, don't see $5,000 on any vehicle, even before. Maybe its just specific areas.

What, your safety at the expense of others? A while ago there was a study about vehicle safety and big SUV's were identified as being the mayor culprits for corporal injuries in car accidents. They also found out that the feeling of 'safety' SUV drivers feel makes them drive more carelessly and cause more accidents. People that buy SUV's don't realize that they cost less to make and then the car maker marks them up with a % twice of thrice what they can charge for cars. Car makers love selling those suckers, believe me since my work is related to Tier 1 suppliers.

I guess this statement is a perfect example of 'to cut one's nose, to spite one's face.'.

- An SUV owner.

[what will you drive when the gas hit's $5/gallon, a tricycle?]

You can find studies to suit your need. If one isn't available you can fund one. I don't put much weight into "research studies" as I find most useless and trivial.

I know SUVs have high margin for automakers and dealers. So what?

I like large trucks and SUVs. I like driving comfortable. I don't like the feeling of being packed in like sardines as I find when riding in compact car. I don't really care what others drive.

Current gas prices doesn't bother me. We still pay less than any developed nation on earth. If people can't afford couple more bucks at the gas station for fillup then they have bigger problem. Like I said I will gladly pay little more for comfort. If you're that hurting from current gas prices, sell your car and buy a bike.

Just wanted to add a little something, although I don't really mind you driving your gass guzzler. Don't make the blanket statement that small cars are unsafe and uncomfortable. Being 6'5" I can tell you from personal experience that many of those SUVs have less useable room upfront than a lot of compacts.

Back OT:

Dad picked up an 04 Z06 yesterday for $42k (this included an extra $1k off for GM loyalty rebate) .

Thought that was a pretty hot deal! YMMV.

AFAIK the $5k rebates are happening now, saw the list Dad brought home from the dealer.

You do realize there are more than just trucks/SUVs and compacts. You don't have to drive a compact to use up less gas, and like JACKHAMMER said, there are plenty of comfortable "toy cars" out there as well.

I just need to vent since I was offended by the blanket statment concerning research.

What Richardito stated concerning the findings are generally accepted in research circles.

If you do not know about the research then please keep your ignorance to yourself.

With that stated, I do not care what people drive since it is your right to do whatever you want with your money.
