GM 24 Hour Test Drive

Has anyone tried this yet? Wondering how much sales pressure was applied after the car was returned.

they prolly do a credit check before they even let you take it home.

too much hassel imo

the only cars worth driving for the full day is a saab or a h2

Ummmm...not really 😛

Saab 9-5 Aero
Saab 9-3 Linear
Chevy Corvette C5 (American icon..the baseline for all sports cars IMO)
Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (the new one is sweet...3.8L S/C OHV V6 with paddle shifting
Cadillac CTS (wonderful midsize luxury sports)
Cadillac Deville (something to take to the airport in 😉)

i agree, the only one worth test driving is the h2 and the saab convert. unfortunately c5 is not one of their options.

I agree, if you had a temporary need to haul a bunch of people or stuff you could get a van or a big SUV like a Yukon XL/Suburban.
Too bad you're not supposed to go more than 100 miles from the dealership. 😛

They'll do this at almost any dealer, as far as I know. You just have to find a salesman who is eager to make the sale. Ask to take it home for the night to "show the wife" or "show my co-signer". I was able, a few years ago, to take home a '95 Ford Probe GT and a '95 Acura Integra, both $20k cars at the time and I was 23 with damaged credit. Of course, I left my piece of crap truck there overnight but it would have been a good trade if they let me trade even up. 😛

I didn't buy the Probe, but I did end up buying the Integra. But now I drive....

A 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport... the best vehicle ever made... maybe not, but I love my Jeep. 😱) Might try to get a new one soon if I see a good deal.

Wow, I really got off subject. Anyway, point is, you can probably get an overnight test drive anywhere if you ask right.

isn't this sometimes used as a scam where they say buy the car or they'll say you stole it?

something like that in consumer reports - had an article talking about all the tricks dealerships use
(like 0% financing) to make a sale

The corvette is NOT included in this offer. And that's the only non-truck GM makes that's worth a crap right now.

Take a look at the saab 9-3, not the quickest car I've driven, but nice otherwise.

The Hummer 2 is available under the 24hr test drive.. click on eligible vehicles..
Different..

Does anyone wonder if this will be around for a while? It took only one post for someone to say how to take advantage of this.

Considering GM's advertising it on TV, I'd say no. Zero percent financing isn't a trick either, unless you have bad credit or something.

Sweet is right, got a 24hr road test setup next weekend!!!!! (Expires July 31, 2003)
260HP/280Torque
Vastly improved handling from previous generation GP
TAP-Shift (paddle shifting), 17" wheels, I can't wait! If the dealership makes me a good offer it will be hard to say NO!
BTW many very good reviews on this car from many popular car websites.

they mean trick as you end up paying more than the sticker price over the long haul, esp. when payments kick in on a 3/4/5 year old vehicle.

Seriously, this is great, I just need somewhere to go. My family just got another car (Malibu) since there was a big GM employee promotion up til last week and my sister's car just died...I need to figure out where to take a car. And what car. I'm thinking CTS.

DJ Tiesto's playing on the 15th...but do I really want to take this car downtown...🙂

Hey I'm no noobie or newbie, I usually post at fat wallet but saw something here of interest so decided to join, usually I just lurk around. Seriously though, Grand Prixs are awesome!
