So what happens after I beat the final episode?

I just returned to the select episode screen. Is that it? Where is the final Boss?

The final boss is the thing with tenacles surrounded by lava (I don't remember its name). You have to teleport into it to kill it.

After you have all four runes you'll return to the main hall. Go through the teleporter again and you'll see the next hall now has stairs leading down to another portal. Jump into that one and you'll be taken to the final level.

Chton is the first boss; Shub-Niggurath is the last one.

I am playing on Medium skill. Kinda hard at that playing level. I tried Hard and I don't think I woul have enough ammo to kill all monsters.

I have all four runes. Went through the teleporter and appeared at the place to choose the episode.

There is no hole in the floor with stairs. Don't tell me I have to beat it on Hard?

After you beat the game, go get some quake done quick videos to see the amazing stuff :D

Edit: You can beat it on normal but I am having trouble figuring out what you are doing wrong... I think you could just type "map end" in the console if you get bored of trying to figure it out.

I just played a recent game the other day, I'm allowed to go old sometimes. It didn't take long to beat quake anyway, it took like 5 hours on the first try.

No. It sounds like something has screwed up.

When you get to the second a hall are all four episodes blocked off?

I knew something was weird.

Everytime I finished an episode, the episode I had just finished was blocked off. When I finished the next one, only that one was blocked off... etc.

So technically to the game, I didn't beat 3 other levels at any one time.

Sounds like you were finishing an episode and then starting over instead of continuing...

Just finished Scourge of Armagon.

I have to say, Quake was scary and fun, but Scourge of Armagon was less scary, but much more fun. The graphics also made some leaps.

Now onto Dissolution of Eternity.

I've got both expansion packs, but never have gotten around to completing either. Now thanks to this thread, they are now being reinstalled on my system. :D

If you want to try something different out, check out quakeforge.

Since ID has openned up Quake2 and Quake1 people have been hacking at the sources improving the engine, quakeforge is a attempt to modernize quake/quakeworld a bit.

Dynamic lighting, better smoke/trails, etc etc.

screenshots

You still need the wad files from a bought version of quake though to play quake, this is just the engine. Probably people are wokring on their own quake games and stuff, but I don't realy know much about it.

Compiling quake1 as I type right now. ;)

No kidding. I have one video where the guy beats the entire game in something like 12 minutes (video length 17:38). Here's the ed2k link if you want it.

The only time I've seen that problem is when console cheats were used, either to warp to levels or gain items.

The episodes are supposed to be blocked off. I've beaten Quake a lot of times, and every time I've done it, it blocks off the episodes as you go.

Go for it.:)

I want to play the game in it's GL originality.

I don't cheat, but maybe messing with the console to get the best graphics and inserting a file into a directory to not have to go to console to switch mouse look on might have done it.
