you mean... he was that guy, in that one scene, that me and all my friends used to rewind and replay over and over?

I only recall one person's head getting blown off and that was in the very beginning fight scene. You're saying your friend was that guy?

That is a very good movie. As for the ending, I concur with them being channeled into a killing zone. Makes sense for the fort to be defended in layers as this was a common strategy since the middle ages.

I hate to say it, but all I could think of during the movie was "wtf, gays aren't allowed in the military."

but it was still a pretty good movie

I think this is the best Civil War movie out there. Gettysburg is okay but I find myself fast forwarding through the long-winded 'thoughts' of some of the major players.

It's one of those movies that chokes me up at the end.

Broderick wasn't bad...but Denzel Washington's performance was just amazing

Yeah we got the edited version in school. I rented it right after that and watched the whole thing again.

I think every American history class I ever took showed us that movie. Not that I'm complaining.

QFT, exceptional performances from great actors. I remember watching this for the first time in early 90's at my cousin's house.

For an American history class in college we had to review for historical accuracy, after lectures on the period:

Last of the Mohicans
The Crucible
Amistad
Glory

Pretty good class.

Excellent movie, yes. Great acting too. Matthew Broderick (as Colonel Shaw), Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes, Morgan Freeman, Jihmi Kennedy, and Andre Braugher.

I've never seen such powerful acting before from Matt and Cary. Best performances out of all of them.

And the movie did make me sniff..sniff.
