T-Bird 1200 (no overclock)

Need to know what I can do to replace the Delta fan on my WBK38 .

Need to substitute "Alot of Noise/Good Cooling" to "Low Noise/Good Cooling"
Many recommend an 80mm case fan but you have to manipulate the clips & bend them to fit which reduces the clips strength .

Are there any hardware kits that allow you to fit a standard 80mm "Sunon" fan to the WBK38 ??

Ideas ?

Hi!

I recently purchased the WBK68 fan. It has the same HS as WBK38 but the FAN is a low profile one: 60x60x10 mm and has a rpm of 4800 (But I run it at 3600 +a duct :) )
For my Duron I had the Fop68 wich has the same FAN fixing clips as the WBK68 or the WBK38. The clips are pretty thin but are from steel. I managed to bend them to install a 80mm fan on the top of FOP68. The clips fixed the fan very well.

I think you should encounter no problem installing an 80 mm FAN on top of that HS expecialy because the WBK is larger than the FOP I used. Just watch out to not bend the clips more than 5-6 times in the same place (I managed to broke one of them back then :( )
I recomend a 2000-2500 RPM 80mm FAN that is very quiet, but you must have a good case cooling or duct the fan on the CPU. Panaflo or Papst will do Ok. You'll love the silence with the new fan. If you OC watch your temps closely with this new FAN.

Warning:
Whatever you do to the HSF just get it off the CPU. Do not try to fit the FAN while the HS in on the CPU. You might break it.
I know that it is more difficult to install the HSF on the CPU with this new fan on.

Cheers,

I have a wbk38 and replaced the delta it had with my YsTech that my old FOP32 had with no problems and I'm still using it going on a year now. the diff in temps were +2c between the two and still is. Very nice performance with 36db, I can't complain.

You got that right. It's like someone drilling a hole in your head. Or somebody stabbing a knife in your ear. I can't take the friggin thing anymore. It's maddening, the contant whirring...

I go into my local comp shop and say, I need a CPU cooler now, mine just went down.

He says, " Here, this'll do the trick."

Yeah, it stays cool alright, but I've heard table saw's that are less noisy.

ooooh, pics, I would love to see how you modded the fan. I am using a coolermaster as a temp solution because my WBK38 was keeping up people at night.... people who live like 5 miles away!!! The only problem with this cooler master is that I have to keep my case side off because it has such a low CFM 60mm fan. The funny part is, with the side off, my comp is still quieter then with the WBK and the side on!! anyway, please posts those pics soon, I have been dying to add a 80mm to my WBK so that I can get some good preformance out of the money I spent on it

There was a thread awhile ago about fitting two 60mm fans on the wbk. Using two quiet 60 mm ones got better temps than the delta. U mite want to try that. IF you want to see how the 80mm fan looks on the wbk go here
http://www.amkcomputer.com/amkpc/index.html?catalog1_0.html
I think u can use a fan grill on the underside of the fan to attach it to the clips so that u dont have to bend them.

Dude what did you end up doing ?

>Im runnin a 92mm Panaflo Low on my WBK-38. I CAN HEAR AGAIN!

is it easy to put one of these on a WBK-38 ? anyone else have this.

>I recently purchased the WBK68 fan. It has the same HS as WBK38 but the FAN is a low profile one: 60x60x10 mm

so would this fan just fit on the WBK38 no problem ?

Try having two fop's in the same case. :) Thank God my machine has it's own room now. :)

I am also looking to change fans.

I have a Global Win CAK38 on a Thunderbird 1.4 and I also want to chage the fan.
Any recommendations?

I have an extra 80mm Thermaltake case fase...would that do the trick if I got an adapter?

Thanks.

does the CAK38 not just have those four screws... if so it should be very easy to replace the fan. the WBK38 doesn't have screws so it's a little bit more difficult.

NicColt .................. I have yet to modify the fan on my WBK . I'm waiting 2-3 more weeks because I'm going to be upgrading to an XP1900 & will do the mod then :)

Also , here's a look at the differences of the two fans .
WBk-38 60mm Delta ------------- (38.0cfm/42.5dba @6800rpm)
80mm Sunon ---------------------- (39.5cfm/36.0dba @3200rpm)
(of course these are approx. ratings & will be affected differently when on or off the heatsink)

You get a larger fan meaning a broader area being cooled with a decrease in noise output , but the force of air being blown in this broader area is less than that of the 60mm Delta because the delta has a smaller area & spins at over double the speed as the Sunon . Don't let the CFM of a larger fan fool you into thinking it will "drastically" cool better than that of the smaller 60mm , for you have to take into consideration the RPM & SIZE ratings .

I've heard some people say that thier temps stayed about the same after doing this mod but with the positive point being with a lesser NOISE output ........................ & that's a main concern for most after they've dealt with the noise over a long period of time ;)

Any other input would be greatly appreciated .

EDIT ------ I would like to hear from the people who have done this mod to see what difference in temperatures they aquired .

That's what I was wondering...if a 80mm fan spins at half the speed of the original 60mm, will it still do the job?

correct me if I'm wrong but if you put the 80mm Sunon fan on the wbk38 you will need to use a fan tunnel that will be attached with the clips and the screw the 80mm Sunon onto the fan tunnel right ? if so that's very interesting.....

again right now I have a ystech fan on rated at 36db and does a very good job for price/performance/cooling. I just would like to keep a 36db or lower on it. again it would be nice to see if someone does this mod. I could do this but just like you only when I update my system which will be as soon as the KT333 or /A boards come out.
