OK. I'm building a new computer. I've got pretty much everything except case fans, power supply, and a heatsink. I'm going to be running an Abit kt7a with an athlon t-bird 900. Also gonna have an SB Live, maxtor 7200 rpm drive, and a geforce 2 gts. I won't be over clocking. What i really want in my case is for it to be cool and quiet. Now, i need recommendations on what heatsink, case fans, and power supply. This is what i'm going to need:

1 Heatsink/Cooler for T-bird that's quiet, and VERY easy to install/remove (because i don't plan on keeping the 900 for too long)

1 80 mm case fan for the front intake

1 60 mm case fan for the back exhaust

1 300 watt AMD approved powersupply.

Any suggestions? I'm totally lost as to the different brands and models of each thing. Any suggestions would be appreciated, keeping in mind that i want good performance at low to moderate noise level. I wanna finish this thing already! Thanks for the help folks!

hmmm...get a 80mm exhaust, unless your case wont accept one

PS- Enermax makes good PSUs, Powerman, Antec...all good stuff there :) Make sure you get 300W or more. And, if it is AMD approved, it's generally good stuff, so dont worry too much about it, unless you have problems

If you intend to upgrade from 900tbird to palamino...i would recommend getting a duron and OC b4 the pal (rather than a tbird)...durons are cheaper, and u wont be using it for that long.

On the HSF...do you plan to OC? The HSF really depends on that. And, easy to install/remove really doesnt matter too much...cooling makes the biggest difference.

Right off the bat, Id say GlobalWin WBK38 w/an 80mm fan mounted rather than that delta. It'll have equal performance, with A LOT less noise :)

hope this helps,

I would recommend the taisol CGK 760092, it is quiet and a good heatsink.

I would agree with eLiu though, put an 80mm exhaust in the back, what case is it, it should take an 80mm. If your looking for quiet, get silencers or panaflos, if you want better cooling, get sunons or deltas.

Enermax, Antec those are both quality PSU's

i got one of those hydraulic black cases from Directron. I think it only accepts a 60 mm fan. I would consider getting a Duron and OC'ing it but i already have the T-bird 900 (got it at a very good price at the time... couldn't resist) and i don't plan on overclocking it much so i don't need a really heavy duty heatsink. I figure in the future i could mod the case and put in more exhaust fans but for now i'm taking it easy and just wanna get the thing up and running.

What I stated should work fine then. Aside from the rear fan, just get it in 60mm if thats what you need.

Enermax seems to be the powersupply that just about everyone recommends around here, but if you want to spend a little more get a Sparkle :) As for the fans I'd say get some Panaflows. They're very quiet yet put out a good amount of air. I have the Taisol CGK760 heatsink, and it seems to cool my Duron 850 quite well (running 35c at idle in windows with a case temp of 26c with case off) and is not even noticeable above the 4 case fans :) (2 are Panaflow low airflow, and the other are 2 sunons) The best thing about the Taisol is that you can easily upgrade its performance by just slapping on a higher performing fan
