Globalwin CAK38 or WBK38?

sup AT's!? i need to know if i should get either the GW CAK38 or WBK38? it will be on an AthlonXP 1.7... i once saw a post that said you could install two fans on a WBK38.... it even cooled better since it was blowing air dirrectly on to the middle of the heatsink where it makes direct contact to the die...
but then again, i believe copper is a better insulator of heat..... but the cak38 is HEAVY! makes it treceherous to travel around with my rig...
any thoughts!? thanks in advance!

If you move your box around a lot I would definitely not want the cak38 on my board unless you plan to remove the hsf every time. It's just too heavy to be accidently dropped too hard and it only uses 2 lugs on the socket. If you want to use a copper hsf, get 1 that uses all 6 lugs on the socket or get an Alpha PAL8045, which uses the 4 holes in the motherboard around the socket.

Wish i could muddocktor. but the Alpha PAL8045 isnt available around here.... my choices are rather limited to the GlobalWin products or the ThermalTake DragonOrb3 ones... which i hear arent that good. If i may ask, do you think the cak38 provides good cooling properties enough to overcome its badside (it being heavy)? i could probably go about taking out the heatsink since i only take my pc with me twice a year during semestral breaks. (would that be advisable?)
thanks again.. 😀

Where is "here"? Online retailers are a great thing...

The CAK38 is old plain aluminum technology. Copper is much better, at least for transfering heat. I'd still prefer an aluminum/ copper HSF, simply because the combination of the two dissapates heat better. I'd say get an Alpha PAL 6035 if you gotta stay at a budget like that.

im from the Philippines dude.. i doubt online retailers deliver here.. 🙂
anyway, the CAK38 has a heatsink made entirely out of copper thats why its heavy. the WBK38 has a heatsink made out of aluminum which is larger. i guess my best bet is a copper one since i also see so many good posts about them and have to figure some way of connecting all four lugs to the mobo. thanks for the help!
😀

I use a CAK32, good HS, made out of one piece copper with soldered fins for better conductivity, but is a tad on the heavy side. I move my PC around alot though so it is a bit of a worry, I'll let you know when it falls off and trashes the graphics card.....
If you do order one my advice is replace the Delta fan which comes with it. I can hear my PC from every room in the house at the moment :frown:
