Global Warming: Even Hipster Owner of Whole Foods Laughs at You

I have to admit, I get a kick out of people I see in Whole Foods that love overpriced groceries. But his comment on global warming was especially notable coming from this type of person.

“I haven’t been outspoken about global warming. I’ve been smeared quite a bit in the media about it – all of a sudden, I’m a climate change denier. I mean, climate change is obviously occurring. So -- it's gotten a little bit warmer. I guess my position on it is that I don't think that's that big a deal. Actually, humanity’s flourished usually when temperatures gradually warmed. And humans gradually adapt to it,” he told Off the Cuff.

I tolerate Trader Joes okay, although I still prefer not to shop there except for 1 or 2 particular items. But I'd rather eat warm dog shit off a plate than shop at Whole Foods.

If you want "whole food", visit your local farmer's market, which also happens to be 100% free of pretentious yuppies and others who think simply shopping at a particular chain and overpaying for groceries makes your diet healthier by default.

I buy all my groceries at a local employee-owned outfit, which also happens to have the lowest prices in town on everything.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is notable about a far right-wing extremist not believing in human caused climate change?

He loves Ayn Rand, he is against Obamacare, he is strongly anti-union, he doesn't believe in climate change, He calls Obama a socialist and a fascist. That seems to all be quite typical of a conservative.

Imagine that, overpriced crap owned by a rightie that "profits" off stupidity and misrepresenting quality? Say it ain't so!

First of all, the owner of Whole Foods is anything but a hipster. As others have pointed out he's got pretty right wing views on a lot of things.

Second of all, what kind of a science background does he have? Oh right, none. Fuck if I care what he says about global warming.

Seriously though, what's with all the hate for Whole Foods. They have some very expensive items there but not everything is overpriced. A lot of their store brand products are priced very competitively and most of the really expensive stuff (fancy cheese, high end meat, etc) would be costly at any grocery store. It's pretty obvious that a lot of people like to bash the place just because they think it's cool to hate on a popular brand.

haha try harder - day in and day out the CEO of whole foods makes an extremely conservative comment. He is nothing like the average Whole Foods shopper - he's just the marketing genius that has learned how to take their money, that's all.

How dare he point out that global warming is anything but bad in every capacity? The nerve.

The CEO of whole foods is a libertarian you dumbass OP.

A person can call himself anything, doesn't change the fact that he is a douchebag.

I don't shop at whole foods because their shit is overpriced, not because I disagree with their politics. On that note, I consider people who base their shopping habits around personal politics are douchebags as well. As if you not shopping at a particular store because you disagree with the store's politics is going to make up for all the other stores you shop at that are probably are doing the same damn thing.

Hey, quick, someone find a liberal who thinks the Earth is flat. That'll teach us round-Earthers about the quality of our beliefs!

I hear there are some children in SAN FRANCISCO who believe in Santa. Damn, we liberal nonbelievers have just been told. There's just no way we can question the conservative Santa-belief now.

I like whole foods. They have nice cheese. I wouldn't go there for grocery shopping or anything other than specific specialty items you can't find at other places. Their hot foods section does smell pretty good though i have to admit. Also they have decent clams/oyster selection at a reasonable price.

First time I went to whole foods I blew $35 on a thing of Fresh Feta Cheese and some of those wheat crackers to go with it.

I bought something else too, I can't remember. I think it was a chunky Mediterranean salad.

Whole Foods is great for some items. I wouldn't want to do all of my grocery shopping there but it's nice to have them as one place to go to. Whole Foods haters are usually just spouting the Whole Paycheck stereotype without knowing what they're talking about.

Man he really told us. I guess I should just now discount all the data climatologists have collected that shows the dangers of climate change because a grocer told me otherwise.

What's the great "gotcha" or discovery here?

He denied the significance of climate change in 2010. It's right in the man's Wikipedia article!

[OT]whole foods is generally overpriced but do have some good stuff. the one near me has a better sriracha than I can find anywhere, plus they have a steak and wine for $10 on the weekends. Excellent, both of them.[OT]

Also, what he said wasn't too ridiculous either....

So now that you've informed us that an ultra right wing guy is also a climate change denier, what exactly was the point of this thread? Many ultra right wing people deny climate change.

NPR interviewed Mr. Mackey last week. He waxed poetic about people having food addictions and how shopping at Whole Foods could help people defeat addictions. He conveniently left out any mention of Whole Foods' liquor sales. Hell, here in my fair city the Whole Foods store announced they will be/have added a bar to the store so patrons can battle their addictions right there in the store. Mr. Mackey is a hypocrite of the highest order.

I have to admit, dogmatic liberals can be quite gulible. Never shopped there, don't live in a high hipster density area.
Once I started reading anything about the clown (owner), I was surprised his business did not dry up.

Edit: Considering the politics of his targeted consumers.
