I want to ship a small box containing a RAM stick from the US to Portugal. The box is 1" tall, 6" long, and 3" wide and weighs under 1 pound. Would this fit in USPS's Global priority envelope? and is there delivery confirmation on that. USPS shipping options I'd like to use the cheapest method that allows delivery confirmation.

There are two envelopes they use with GP shipping, smaller is cardboard and the bigger is the fiber paper that they use for Express also. Based on dimensions you gave, it would probably fit in the smaller envelope, but I would make sure it has plenty of packing around it. I have sent several boards with this method and not had a problem yet.

edit: You are going to be hard pressed to find delivery confirmation to any country outside US because the other county's post office is not bound to update when the package is delivered, they don't have access to USPS system.

I have the ebay auction for the US only, but the buyer emailed me asking about Portugal shipping. So it would be a bad idea to ship such an item without confirmation, right?

Well it depends on how much it is worth and how you trust the buyer. I wouldn't send to anyone that didn't have substantial trading history, because without delivery confirmation they could claim the item never arrived. I think Global Express (more expensive) might have a tracking option, but not sure because I never used it (I know GP doesn't have it). I would try calling the PO and see all my options.

Cmin7,

Smaller envelope will work fine, and I think you can forgo the customs paperwork BS. Since you said US only in your auction, tell the buyer that in order to ship overseas, you are not responsible if it is lost in transit. If he agrees, ship, if he doesn't, don't.

You can get a signature confirmation & insurance options on the item.

We send packages/letters to Pacific Islands and get back the green postcard that shows someone signed for it.
