Gladiator Fighting - Would You?

Some country/place/town/whatever on this planet decides to OK gladiator fighting.

Legalities are cleared and the following is the result,...

- everyone entering is not mentally handicapped
- but, those with a physical handicap (one arm, wheelchair bound) will be allowed in and matched with someone with an equal handicap (2 gladiators with an arm missing each)
- 18 years old and above, matches are within age range,.. so, no 70 year old matched with a 24 year old
- there are light, middle and heavy weight classes
- men and woman are allowed
- same sex match ups only
- suicidal people are allowed in
- people seeking euthanasia are not allowed in (i.e. an 85 pound cancer patient who can barely lift his head would not be allowed in)
- you fight for money
- if you win a match, you have the choice to stop and receive some money, but, not the major/ultimate pot of the season
- the fighting is to the death
- once one gladiator is dead, the match is over, medics rush in to treat the winner and,...
- ,... you have some time to heal from your wounds; i.e. 2 weeks for stitches to heal, but for serious wounds (broken bones, split open guts) you are out for the season
- if you are a criminal, you can ask / participate in the gladiator fighting, but, winning won't bring you freedom - just the prize money, which you can give to your family or loved ones (if you have, otherwise, you just have a pile of money you can't touch until your prison sentence is fulfilled)
- no guns, no arrows, but there are spears, tridents and knives
- swords, axes, clubs, hammers, etc
- some armor (for your head) and a shield is available

So:
1) Would you watch this type of fighting?
2) Would you pay to watch gladiator fighting? Be it live at the arena or via pay per view
3) Would you participate in this type of fighting?

1) Would you watch this type of fighting?
No, but, I would read the news about it and see how this is being treated and viewed. I would be curious to see how the fans act/behave. See who is it that made it past a full season. Who the big winner is. But, I would not be able to watch one human kill another,.. especially if there is begging and crying.

2) Would you pay to watch gladiator fighting? Be it live at the arena or via pay per view
I would not contribute a single dime to this. I would not even visit bars/restaurants that have it on their TVs.

3) Would you participate in this type of fighting?
I honestly don't think so. Even if I was in prison or diagnosed with a terminal disease.

Yes/Yes/No

(1) I'd watch it as long as there was no charge & fighters were doing it 100% of their own free will.

(2) As mentioned above no I would not pay for it. (I'm a cheap bastage)

(3) Hell no ... I'd get killed in 2 seconds lol!

And we would call it "The Running Man" hosted by Richard Dawson, hum, I mean, Eric Holder.
No, no, and ... No.
Besides
- suicidal people are allowed in
- people seeking euthanasia are not allowed
What ?!? You've go to be kidding me. That's like the huge abortion "health" loop hole.
Did you make this up because you're stuck in a NYC office on a rainy day with nothing to do?

if people want to die we should not stop them.

Well then euthanasia should be allowed. It's a ridiculous rule to ban it if suicide is allowed. I smell instant civil rights lawsuit if you ban euthanasia.

But as for me personally, I would not watch it, support it or participate.

I'd watch it, pay for it, and cheer like crazy for my preferred fighter. I answer honestly because inside most of us, there is a ruthless killer looking for a way to live vicariously through others. Its the primal beast within us that wants this. It worked for Rome, and it would work for us.

Make it pay per view only, then after a year take everyone that watched through a psychiatric evaluation. It would be a great way to catch psychos, though of course it wouldn't work more than once.

If the person looking to die is physically fit, then sure, let them in.

If they went through 1 year of chemo, weigh 85 pounds and can barely lift themselves up - then it will be a sick person laying there, getting beaten/sliced to death. They wouldn't be able to fight back.

I am looking at it from an "entertainment" perspective; no one (who wants to see a gladiator fight) would want to watch someone hack at a pile of sick meat.

A suicidal person would lash out if anything - think of the comikaze and suicide bombers; their goal is to take out what and who they can - they would provide some entertainment in the arena.

Also, I would fight in the games...that is, if I could respawn. I'll stick to BF4.

I bet in the future when we find ways to trick your brain into thinking you are doing something else, like true virtual reality, with all the real senses being artificially stimulated, that publically watched games like this will take place in cyber space.

No, no and no. UFC on cable is as far as I go. Its different in the Roman times when you were forced to fight for your life. The ones that did it for glory were usually former soldiers who probably couldn't do anything else. Still kinda hard to imagine people watched it then, although life was cheap.

Even in the past when they were typically just slaves fighting it was rarely to the death. The training (time and money) is to expensive to toss people away like that.
