Let's not forget Gwyneth Paltrow as "Helen of Troy" (no wait...I just dreamt that.)Originally posted by: Yzzim
Leonardo DiCaprio's Alexander the Great movie, Vin Diesel's biopic of Hannibal, and Brad Pitt's Trojan War drama.
:Q Those sound awesome! :Q
I do agree though, that a sequel to Gladiator is not needed and will definitely blow without Russel Crowe.

The final battle sequence, however, is where David Self earns his pay. The Battle of Thermopylae lasts about forty pages and is every bit as stunning and brutal as the opening of Gladiator but is nearly three times longer. This may seem excessive to some but there's no doubt that those filmgoers who salivated throughout Gladiator will be enraptured by this film's last act. The sheer magnitude of this sequence will likely make Gates one of the most expensive films ever made. I can't imagine the dizzying logistics of filming these scenes, including one protracted and gut-wrenching battle between about a thousand men on a sloping cliff. Michael Mann has crafted mesmerizing action sequences in both Heat and Last of the Mohicans so I can't wait to see what he'll do here.
