Fat:

Anand tested the Voodoo 5500 w/ 64 megs of RAM about a week ago with the latest drivers. It gets smoked by the Geforce2 GTS. The voodoo does look OK in UT, but that's about it. No reason to buy one of these whatsoever unless you're into cool looking boxes...

Mosdef,
Their price match policy says this "Price match requests must be submitted within three (3) days from the date of purchase at buy.com."

You are telling me that they don't price match there own website 3 days after the purchase????

In the past I have gotten them to give me $37 back on that crucial ram deal we had running in here and that was like 20 days after I bought it. I just called them up and acted really upset that the price had dropped so much and they gave it to me. I think you should call them and say something like "I could buy from onvia where they guarantee their price for 30 days."

Try it.

Guys this card is amazing, I was running NFS 5 at 1920x1440 and it's fvckin fast!
Plus overclock the GTS to get PRO level performance

Bottom feeder,

thats because the unreal engine is really old. It had its origines in the proprietary 3dfx glide api, so it runs best on that platform.😛 Kind of sad really, they just patched it for direct 3d later.. a patching process that took forever to get right. Anyways, it doesn't matter because they have learned their lesson, no glide for next unreal engine, muhahaha🙂 If you want to play old games(i think unreals the only popular game left using glide), with no driver support, the v5500 is for you.

driver uses glide also. most of the games i like use glide and do not run nearly as well under anything not 3dfx (before i buy a game, i check the tech support forums). if the 5500 has tv-out, i'm buying it(it's going into a k6-2 350 that is currently with a riva 128)

I would love to get this but there is really no reason to. games, sure, but I dont even play them that much. I've been trying to convince myself that there are some reasons for me to get this yet i cant think of any. There is no need!

i second that...having second thought since NV20 is coming out...then again, that would be one expensive card. in addition, i already have a radeon 32MB DDR. hhmmm, what to do....what to do?

I need some help on this deal. I think its just me having a brain fart. But if anyone could be kind enough to email me the instructions on acquiring the coupon so I can enjoy in the deal, I would be very appreciative. DrChad98@hotmail.com . Thanks 😱

i just got this card from the staples deal and IT ROCKS!!!

dont think twice! Unreal Tournament or whatever!! this is much simpler of a deal (no price matching) and its cheaper!

go go go go go

JackMDS...... thanks for info about coupon.... to get that amount of graphics power for $128. is amazing..."What a Country..." 🙂

Thanks for the info on this. I was going to wait for the Leadtek to drop down a bit, but at $127, the 2-5 fps I could get from overclocking the Leadtek just isn't worth it. I was a bit ticked I missed the Staples deal, but this is just as good. Thanks again for the post.

Can someone who owns one of these cards tell me how these cards perform in Windows enviroment. For example Photoshop, office, etc...
Thanks.😀

This is an excellent deal, jump on it. BTW, rubbing elbows with the rich and snobby during Christmas and got into nice long conversation with two financial geeks. We got talking about dot.com's and both stated (they barely know each other and work for different financial institutions in different states) that buy.com is on it's last leg. Both ran the mumbo jumbo financial speak by me that basically said buy.com should be finished in 2001 sometime. Anyone else hip to this info? I know we are almost all techno-geeks but surely someone knows a financial geek here or there. Ask them and see what they say, something about buy.com's numbers are indicating a collapse shortly.

Oh well, maybe it's true or not. Until then I'll be abusing them rat bastards for every good deal I can find!!!

OT: I am constantly freaked out by the fact that I look exactly like my little icon here at Anand. I did not pose for it yet someone has captured the beauty that is me. My wife and friends all agree that Office Guy looks exactly like me. Where am the royalty checks???

A reply to Parstron

When it comes to 2D graphic performance, it seems that there are no significant differences between most of the modern cards that are sold in the $100-$200. When you look at the reviews, you notice that they stop relating to the 2D performance of the cards.

A review of card discussed in this thread: !http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1234&p=1

If you need something unique, you will have to buy one of the specialty cards that cost three or four times more then the Geforce2 cards.

At the beginning of the year, I opt for better quality in doing tasks like the ones that you mentioned, and I did not care about 3D games. I bought Matrox G-400, which is excellent for 2D graphic card (poor on 3D). Later on I bought (for another computer) a Geforce MX2 card. I can not say that the graphic quality of the MX is less then the G-400, and the MX card is faster in both 2D and 3D then the Matrox.

The card that is discussed in this thread Elsa Gladiac Geforce2 GTS (I bought one but did not receive it yet), is faster then the MX, given that the Matrox G-400 32MB cost currently the same as this Gladiac card, I would not pass this opportunity.

But your mileage may vary!

Dang it!

Good deal.. I think I'm going to jump on it. Only worried about them delivering it later this week when I'm out of town, so I may wait until tomorrow night to order it. Does anyone know where buy.com ships from so I can estimate how long it will take to get here (TN)? Thanks.
