it seems like sometimes people offer a cookie for comfort, other times it's an insult.

i will give you my honest answer. long before :cookie: was part of internet forums, back in the day... when someone told you something or said something that they thought was really ground-shattering important news and you thought was basically insignificant, you asked them, "do you want a cookie?"

ie:

aidanjm: "i love men."
meltdown: "you want a cookie?"

and so on.
