I gave a coworker an awkwardly long hug when she left. She was slutting it up that day with a low-cut v-neck top and a push-up bra -- could feel it. Two years statue of limitations expired last year, ftw!

The good news is I left with a couple of cases that are very busy which translates into a decent bottom line for me. Been crazy getting pulled in a million directions and trying to figure out how to run a business. Biggest thing I miss - support staff. You don't realize how important a secretary is until you are the secretary. Figuring out how to file stuff, mail stuff, etc. is no easy task - especially when you're already putting in a full day of billable work.

That said, I love it so far. Now ask me when these cases disappear and I'm sitting there praying for a new client to come in... might be a different story.

My company got bought out, so I'm kinda scared. Given I work at a NOC that can easily be moved down south or something, but I'm hoping because our NOC does such a large variety of things while the other NOCs specialize in only 1 thing, that it wont be worth it to separate all the tasks to all the other NOCs, they's basically have to hire more people than what we are as we're all one team in one building while the other NOCs are in different places and are different teams. Hell, they could move all those NOCs to us... I doubt it though.

But still scary nonetheless because we don't know anything and wont know ever. They could easily do a move in years from now so when we think things are quiet they may not be in the background.

I seriously need to work on some coding projects to try to have a secondary income. Mobile apps seem to be the easy money these days. Need to learn that. There is not really much in tech here so if I lost my job I'd probably have to look at another field like trades.

Working for yourself is the most secure bet these days though. Companies seem to constantly be looking at ways to lay off or outsource people.

The fed state income tax filings aren't difficult but might be tedious to set up. Especially the e-verify. I'm sure you know someone that can get you started.

Family business for internal labor (not talking about more kids in 9 months).

If your prev firm allowed you to leave with a few cases; would they consider sending you others if they are overbooked.

If not; start pounding the pavement and shaking the palmetto trees and hour a day from now until you are overloaded for 6 months ahead.

That's cool the firm let you take some cases.

Secretary work is a rape today...like $10/hr in many places.

Once you get more established you can either pay your secretary more if they scale up to your needs or re-hire at the $30k-$60k+ price points.

Being a small shop means you don't need to deal with benefits unless you want to.
