I think you will have a positive experience giving blood. Let the Nurse know that it is your first time and ask what to expect.

As for "donating" plasma and getting paid. The components in the plasma WILL NEVER be used in another person. Blood and blood products that are paid for/bought from the donating person can not, by law, be used in or for another person.

Plasma donation centers sell the plasma to companies for use in research and to companies that make equipment standards.

I used to field those questions all te time when I was doing an internship at an AABB licensed Blood Bank.

I donate every 8 weeks. It's really no big deal, just eat a good meal before doing it, and you shouldn't feel any effects. Of course, the day you give blood you should refrain from any 'strenuous activity', but after that you're good to go.

Think about the lives that are saved... without blood it wouldn't be possible. Imagine a loved one getting in a car wreck but dying because no blood was available for emergency surgery.

It's something you can do that costs you nothing, yet brings huge rewards for someone else.

As for the needles and stuff, I'm a little squeemish when it comes to needles too, but I just look the other way. You feel a small sting, and if the person doing the sticking is good and experienced, you have no problems. :)

Yea, the first time I gave blood I was walking around the halls of my H.S. like I was drunk. It was pretty fun actually.

Yep....I used to do that when I went to college too! At times I needed a little extra cash so off to the Plasma Alliance :) Now I make it a point to donate every 8 weeks....just hit the 5 gallon mark last time I went.

<< If God had intended us to give blood he would have put faucets where our nipples are. >>

Shinerburke: I seriously hope you are joking or just forgot to add the blinking icon. Otherwise you're an @ss. Without blood donations a lot of people couldn't undergo surgery and would die. :|
