Giving blood sucks

GoingUp

Lifer
Our company is having a blood drive and theyre low, so I voluenteered to give blood. I have an appointment in 30 min, but I freakin' hate needles and looking over and seeing a bag of my blood next to me. Oh well, its for a good cause.

Stupid me left my PDA at home so I can't have somethign to distract me while theyre tapping me dry.

I gave blood for the first time about a month ago. It didn't bother me at all. I will definitely give blood again.

Think about all the people you are saving! (when in reality, your blood bag was dropped on the floor of the bloodmobile and they chucked it in a trash can, 10min. after you left) 🙂

hehe  for giving blood. That's always a great thing to do. I've given blood many times. Yes I admit, at first I was pretty freaked out, but you get used to it hehe.

If i'm capable in helping w/o giving too much effort/time, why not? hehe 😛

i got a good blood story....we had a blood van come to where I work a few months ago so I agreed to go and donate blood. As I was going out the lady who worked there stopped me and asked if I would like to donate plateletes. At first I said no, but then she suckered me into it with the "its usually child cancer patients who need it...". So I relented. She directed me to where to go (it was in a different location...setup inside the building). I go and they check my veins and say they cant do it because my veins arent big enough.

So I go back to the regular blood van to donate blood and the people in there are like "oh yeah, would you be willing to donate platelettes? I told them the other people said I couldnt but they insisted I could with the machines in the van. It took them a while to find a vein they could use and finally got it going. Seemed they were having alot of trouble sucking the blood out as she would have to move the needle when it stopped. If you all dont know how donating platlettes works, they take a little blood out, then the machine takes the platelettes, then the blood is returned. This process is repeatedly done until they get all the platelettes. They get the blood out and are in the process of putting it back in. I guess the needle shifted so the needle was not in my vein anymore. Of course the blood has to go somewhere so it is now pooling under my skin. I tell the nurse that this sure doesnt seem right and she rushes over and tries to get the needle out before anymore blood goes underneath (it was about the size of a quarter now, maybe a few mm in height. she tries to put some gauze over it and pull out the needle, but that was unsuccessful. As she pulls it out, blood sprays EVERYWHERE. All over her clothes, over my clothes, over the bus walls. OOPS

Anyways, thats my story. Regardless, this wont make me stop donating blood....though next time they ask to platelettes I'm giving them a hell no 🙂

You now have an obligation to go out and get the largest bloodiest marble-est steak you can get and grill it for dinner. Got to replace those blood cells!

There's not an emoticon on all the internet that comes anywhere close to the one I need right now.

Well I'm back and light headed. Drinking plenty of peach water to replace the lost fluids 🙂

 for the free cookies and juice

we knew you'd survive

what blood type are you?

Donating blood is simple and easy. They usually place the collection bag out of your line of view (unless you intentionally look for it) because lots of people are sqeamish about seeing their blood.

Count your lcuky stars that you can give.

I take medicine that prohibits me from doing so

<--used to donate platelettes and red cells regularly
