As an hourly employee, it always comes down to the little things. Our village is paying out of the ass for overtime lately. The recent flood made them pay out a ton and had everyone working overtime. Sure, everyone is making bank. But you want to know what is remembered most? The fact that for 50 people, they bought FOUR medium pizza's as a "Thank you." The kicker is they bought it from a place that has a 2 for 1 deal. But for their "emergency management meeting" they had the whole thing catered...salad, pasta, bagels, coffee, chicken, beef...the works.
Believe me, the good and bad gestures are remembered for a long time. And places wonder why moral takes a nose dive quickly. It has nothing to do with the pay many times.
