Giuliani - should he be allowed to serve a third term?

The mayor has performed admirably during this crisis and his approval rating is through the roof.

The problem is that he is at the end of a 2 term reign as mayor of NY. He helped put this policy in place early in his career as mayor. I'm not sure about giving him a third term, but I believe he should stay as active mayor until the crisis as through.
I, being a non-New Yorker, think he has been really good for the city even before this. I know he has had his controversy, but overall he has been good.

What's your take on it?

Heck yeah, he should keep on going if he can. On top of handling the tragedy so well, he has single handedly cleaned up New York City

Did you see him on Letterman last night? Absolutely FANTASTIC.

There is apparently going to be a huge write-in campaign to get him re-elected. It will be interesting to see what happens. I think he should stay in, if he wants the position.

I think they should allow it because its a horrible time to transition mayors and he's done an outstanding job. I think ny would be better served if they made an exception this time.

<< No I missed it. What all did he say (brief summary please)? >>

To be honest, he really didn't say anything that he hasn't said before. However, it was his demeanor and his praise for Dave for coming back on the air that really impressed me. Dave DID ask whether he can come back for another term, and Rudy did NOT say no. I imagine something like that is on the backburner of his mind, though.

If he is allowed another term he is violating the law. I know he's a good mayor and his colors have definitely brought a lot of hope and healing the past few weeks, but they did this for FDR during WWII, I sure as heck don't want W for more than 2 terms. We can't allow these terrorists to make us go back on our election process.

Rudy himself campaigned for the term limit. It is there for a reason and should be adhered to. He can still have a career in politics, just not as then next mayor of New York.

<< Term limits are stupid anyway. >>

No they are not. If we did not have them here we would never be able to get rid of the Dick that is fscking us.

Instead of giving him a third term, I would like to see them give him a partial term (2 years) and continue the process at a later time. AKA delay the election for a year or two. I'm not even sure if the candidates would even want to jump into this situation.

Somebody give that man a prize.

Well, I'm in a rather unique position here since I am both a New Yorker, and a student at Johns Hopkins where Michael Bloomberg is the Chair of the Board of Directors. First of all, it's a shame that Guiliani had to drop out of the senate race, because he would have been a lot better there than Hillary. Did you see her expressions during Bush's speech last week!? She should be ashamed of herself. While I love Guiliani as mayor, I would not support a third term. However, I see a delay of the election as a viable possibility.

I personally think that term limits LIMIT our freedom to vote for whoever we want. I don't think there should be a term limit for any public office. We have the right to choose, the right to free speech, why can't we have the right to vote for whoever we want to and see him in office if he wins the vote?

unfortunately i am with term limits. Even though he is a remarkable mayor, from what i've read and seen, term limits are law, and therefore should be followed. Term limits are there for a reason, and regarless of how a person was, these term limits should apply to anyone. I feel bad, but that really is the way to go. I hope he is fine after the next election

danny~!

edit: im a dork.

Term limits imply that the voters don't trust themselves to vote someone out of office.
Instead of having the right to vote, you get the right to vote, but only for certain people.

Let never make the mistake of assuming a law is there for a reason. Obviously it is there for a reason, but lets make sure we know whether or not it is a good reason.

I have lived in NYC my whole life. I personally think Giuliani is a great mayor. He picked up the pieces of the city that David Dinkins left, and returned this city to glory. Before the attacks on the city, Giuliani had a fairly mediocre approval rating, and might not have won an election if there was one. There have been a few scandals that have tainted his image, like his extramarital affair, the police scandals, and his passion to move Yankee Stadium to the west side.
I do believe that he should be mayor, despite term limits, if it's the will of the people. OTOH, it is highly unlikely that term limits will be repealed, since our assembly is democratic. There are currently 4 viable democratic candidates for mayor, and I doubt they'll support the repeal of term limits. Even if Giuliani isn't allowed to extend his term, I'd be proud to vote for Mike Bloomberg.

A incumbent has an inherent advantage over the challenger. The longer you are in office the more this is the case. Term limits are a way to even the playing field so that the best man may win.

what makes you think he won't run against schumer?

--

anyway, if he could he should.

but right now, it's still against the law. and ppl do support term limits. right now, the limit is 2. they could make it 3 or whatnot, but it's up to the legislature for now... need some emergency sessions...

but he can still get a write in dealie, that'd prompt the emergency sessions.

Howard, HE could have beated Billary the first time but I support his decision to withdraw from the race for health reasons. I wish I was still a New York resident so I could vote for him again.

I don't think he should run for mayor again!
I really think that the 2 term restriction is a VERY good thing and NO exceptions should be made!

I think G should run for GOVERNOR!
