i was at work this week and while going into the gym to find some newly delivered machines i overheard the gym teacher splitting the class up into a boys vs. girls match.
now, i didnt know anyone did this anymore as a matter of tact (and mathmatical symmetry) but i brought it up to a few people and they have said that it is illegal to do that. there is a federal law about this sort of thing in public schools.

anyone have any information on that or know if it is at all true?

eh? until highschool gym was always split up. girls had a girl gym teacher and did their own thing and guys had a guy gym teacher and we did our own thing. it wasn't until HS that they mixed us.

I remember them doing that alot during my earlier school days, and even recently.

I don't think its against the law. Sex Discrimnation really can't be used here, as long as both sides are getting equal equipment or whatever during the match.

Are Women and Mens bathrooms against the law? :p

Right, and they played against each other. Like I said, that happened all the time at my schools.

yeah, i remember getting split up like that too...but...when i brought it up, particularly the part about them using a "real" football for the boys and a nerf one for the girls, people started to say that it was unacceptable.

personally, i dont really care but i found it interesting that people had told me it is now illegal.

***Non PC messsage follows***

In general girls are smaller, have smaller hands, and are worse at sports than boys. A Nerf football is much easier to catch than a college or NFL sized leather ball.

yes, i understand the logistics of it. im not contending that this is wrong or that it is unacceptable.
but does anyone have any proof to the validity of the statements that were made to me...that this is illegal, there is a federal law, etc. any proof in either direction.

personally, i dont think its wrong to split up the teams like that but i think its stupid. i cant think of a real reason why boys and girls cant play anything together at that level (k-5).

It's only illegal if someone complains. Is it illegal that they split up my co-ed gym class so the guys did wrestling and the girls gymnastics? IMHO, YES! I wanna effortlessly pin a chick to the floor underneath me (Or better yet, let her stuggle), not spend 6 minutes stuggling with another guy in a homoerotic show of 'power'

I used to get split up in Primary School, and in high school.
In high school, we got split up becuase the lads would complain about doing dance/gymnastics/ect; And the girls would wuss out if they had to play Rugby or Football(proper football, soccer to most of you).

i was never in a class where girls and boys were split up. the instructors yelled at the girls to shut their whiny holes when we played football and at the boys to shut their whiny holes when we did dance. equal opportunity yelling. :) and nobody got hurt playing football and nobody turned gay from dancing. nor did they fall over and die from the embarrasment of looking "butch" or "pansy." nor did the grass stains hurt the girls or the guys find dance easy after all.

and it made swimming MUCH more fun. :)

They haven't split up pe classes in a long time. I never saw the day when girls weren't doing everything exactly the same.

You're being an idiot on purpose to be sarcastic?
No, it's not illegal...
And, as many of you probably don't remember... early on, girls are pretty even with boys, then they develop faster... So, the girls have the edge until around 9th grade..
