Good point. A card with a note / song / poem that you wrote, or even some song lyrics would be a nice touch.
All she needs is validation that you treasure her company (and love, if that's involved) and that you share the same feelings for her that she has for you.
BTW, if you're going to disregard someone's advice solely on the fact that they criticized your overzealous judgement call, then you're in for a world of disappointment in a competitive world my friend.
It's the truth that $500 give or take $100 is way too much to spend on ANY girl for a 6 month anniversary.
Why?
Because the only girls who insist that you "celebrate" a 6 month anniversary are younger ones (i.e. less than 25 or so)
In addition, $500 would be a good price point only if you were either a) big ballin' or b) dating someone VERY high maintenance.
Save the money for a nice 1 year / birthday / valentines gift. It'll pay off more in the long run, trust me.
You can do VERY well in the romancing category with a minimal budget if you know how to play your cards right.
