I think there are 4 choices. You should also mention to gf the problem first to get her input.

1. Next dinner have your gf also pay to set example for her friend. At this point the friend should also pay.
2. Forget wallet and have them both pay and cover your tab. If friend mentions about you needing to pay back... go to #3.
3. Never invite her again.
4. Have gf mention to friend to pay.

I agree, either from the very beginning tell the waiter/waitress for a split check or once you receive the check advise your gf's friend what she owes, or you could always ask your gf to take a turn and pick up the tab.

I have a better idea. Ask for two separate checks. When they come, hand the gf's friend hers and don't say anything. Problem solved.

i'm married and i'd never pay for a friend of my wife's meal, unless something was specifically made of her financial situation (i.e. just lost her job, etc.). At that point, my wife would probably chip in too...

Unless I was super loaded, which I'm not. Sometimes we do "rounds" - we'd double date and we'd pay one time with the understnading that the other couple pays next time.

I mean, I buy people drinks all the time.. but buying her dinner. every time.. it's weird.. Did you start this whole mess, saying "don't worry about it!" the first time, and now they expect it?

But i'm the weird guy who's dated a lot and only rarely even paid for my date's meal. In fact, dates often paid for me..Seriously, it's a new era 😉
