Girlfriend wants to get me a class ring.. Anywhere to NOT get ripped off?

er, i didn't notice anyone saying whoever's ugly...

just a bunch of don't buy the ring advice. which is the same as my advice.
i'd add that depending on the price of gold, you might want to consider buying a pure gold ring for investment. who knows how high they might go. i've already double the values of my gold and silver coins (actually, made more money on the silver as they went higher)

I got a college class ring and wear it all the time. It's different at Virginia Tech since class rings are a big deal here and they are redesigned every year. I spent about $400 on mine with 10k white gold. Its nice and solid...32 penny weight.

Edit:I guess that I am the only one for class rings here...

the only guys i never see wearing college class rings are the guys that work at used car dealerships that failed as college football or basketball players...

I'm for class rings.....IF YOU'LL ACTUALLY WEAR IT. I wear mine every day.

What good is it if it "lasts longer" if it just sits in a drawer somewhere and never sees the light of day?

Local jeweler is the best bet, though. Of course class rings are intentionally standardized so that people of a single graduating year have similar rings and you'll sort of lose out on that.

Unless it's an Engineering Ring, I don't see the point of a class ring. The Engineering ring is one of the few rings that actually stand for something meaningful.

I have gotten new business because I come to find out I am talking with a fellow alumni from my school.

I would say that something like 70% of the people that go to the university I graduated from get class rings.

HS ring, now that is a different story.....
