My ex-girlfriend was laid off and spent months looking for a job... and she had experience (but this was in civil engineering). She became super needy and clingy and wanted to spend every minute with me since she didn't have a job. That was a depressing relationship.

Did your girlfriend eventually find a job? I've heard all kinds of stories involving people with english/sociology/psycology degrees not getting jobs, but I haven't heard many stories of people with chemistry/physics/math/engineering degrees looking for work.

I don't think she's found anything yet. She could probably find something if she was willing to move farther away from the city (like 50 miles) or put up with a 1.5 hour commute.
