Remind me not to let new drivers drive my car....my girlfriend has her permit, only had it for like two weeks, problem is she is started to get conifdent when she drives...not good with a new driver. I was letting her drive my car, and she was being all cocky and not doing what I told her to do and all, and then when she pulled over to stop and let me drive again, she railed the curb. She hit it really hard too, not just a little scraping that we all do sometimes, its like she just plain wasn't paying attention(I didn't see the curb! How can I see that side of the car? - her exact words). Of course it popped the tired....rgh. Not too big a deal, she said she'd pay to get it fixed, maybe now when she drives she will realize that she isn't the great driver she thinks she has become.

Something you might want to check on, is it even legal for her to drive with only you?

Here in OR the licensed driver has to be 21 or older.

Just something to think about.

At least she's paying for it.

:D

More proof that women are bad drivers.... my g/f has the same confidence issue.. she got her first speeding ticket a few days ago. She was going 58 in a 35 right near an access road.

Needless to say, she was doing 85 on the highway(65 night/70 day) heading home after that ticket..

:disgust:

Viper, I'm not sure what the law is. In the drivers manual, it says any liscenced driver over 18. But 2 years ago, they changed a lot of the permit laws(like you have to wait 6 months/drive 50 hours before you can get your liscence, no driving after 11 until you've had your liscence a year). I'm in PA.

Swirth, '94 Grand Am SE. AKA slowest car ever.

Spanky, we were right by my house, so I drove her home in my dad's '99 Sable...not too bad a deal :) I don't like Sables all that much, but its a whoooole lot better than my car.

BCYL, I'm not sure. But she will pay for it either way.

You should teach your girlfriend to work the stick.

good drivers know the car they're driving even after driving it for a short while and know about how far the curb is. sorry bout the tire man. hopefully she learned that she isn't a good driver. how old is she?

Something you might want to check on as well, depending on the company you bought the tire from they may replace it for free.

She probably did major sidewall damage, so odds are the tire will need to be replaced.

However, some companies (Les Schwab for one) will replace their tires for road damage - Even when it was definitely user error.

My dad destroyed a 2 day old tire on a curb once, & took it back (fully expecting to pay for a new tire). They wouldn't let him pay for it, said it fell under the category of road damage.

Definitely something to check, and to keep in mind the next time you buy tires.

You should teach your girlfriend to work the stick.

I was going to, but I dont wanna risk her destroying my clutch in the process...

As for the OTHER stick, I am sure she knows how to work it ;)

Not sure about PA's laws, but in DE for the first 6 months I have to have a liscensed driver over 25 w/ 5 years driving experience in the front seat. After that I have 6 months where I can drive by myself 6AM-9PM (Except school/work/church).

I think I have you beat.... '91? Geo Tracker:(

At least it was an accident, my bro used to get in fight with his g/f and she took a knife to his car tire. Ah, young love.

Im a horrible driver. Gave my mom a heart attack the other day.. I though I was ok driver but the other day prove me wrong. Taking a turn without slowing down is fun fun fun :)

Total EXP behind the wheel = a little over 20hours... in a span of a year :) Can't wait to take the road test again ;-) rotflmao.

I dunno man, its a 115hp 4 cylinder engine, lugging a 3000ib car. Pair that with a 3 speed automatic, and you've got yourself a 0-60 time of 18 seconds. Booyah.

If it requires a replacement tire, you'll (most likely) have to replace the other side too. $$$.

If the tire came off the rim, then just go to a gas station, and put a bunch of air in it. It should pop it back onto the rim. Be careful, as if your finger is between the tire and rim, your finger is going to be missing some knuckles.

be careful with her passing parked cars then, she just may rip off your passenger side mirror or worse smash in the entire side of your car. I wouldn't let her drive your car anymore.. lol

I've had a learner's since feb. and you might say I have a bit of a confidence issue as lately I've started to get a bit cocky behind the wheel but I haven't scratched a car yet and I've prob. nearly 1000km exp now. I'm a speed demon, but if someone's faster I move to the right no problem. I try not to tailgate closer than two or three car length but sometimes people slow down for no reason (too afraid when the highway curves or whatever) and then I gotta hit the brakes. I hope I don't drive like I ride my bike(cycle) though, that just may get me killed ;) On bike paths if someone is blocking both sides of the path but I have enough room to pass them without falling off or if there's grass with no ditch I'll try to get as close to them as possible and go as fast as possible without actually hitting them. I can get within a couple inches at 20mph.. scares the sh!t out of them ;) Hell once I passed an asshole blocking the path going really fast and I got the distance so perfectly that I just grazed his shirt. hehe..
Thing about driving and passing parked cars is that cars are so damn wide so it's much harder to judge that side distance and I'm so paranoid about hitting them.. bah. Once I nearly clipped a mirror (going very slowly though).. that woke me up.

Yea, she was driving too close on the right, on an empty road she was on the shoulder, and then on residential streets she was getting too close for comfort to the parked cars...i made her drive straight down the middle after that lol...she definitely ain't drivin my car for awhile, I can tell you that.
