My lovely gf decided that for my 25th birthday, she will splurge on me and get me a flat screen 27" tv. I went around and browsed at a few stores and the price point seems to be around $300-$550. BestBuy in particular seemed to have the most models from the places I went to.

All models I looked at were 27" and Flatscreen. There was a Samsung TXN2730F for $359.99. A Panasonic CT-27SX12 for $379.99 and a Sony KV27FS100 for $425.99. There was also the FS200 for $529.99 which can do PIP. I'm leaning towards the Sony because it can do 16:9 vertical compression. Do you reccomend either of the models I listed or another model somewhere else?

For the past 3 years I've been viewing TV on my 19" monitor with a tvtuner card....I haven't really been keeping up with electronics and on whats hot... Thanks. I hope to get the TV tommorow afternoon.

You might also want to consider the Panasonic Tau series... model CT27SX12.. ermm dont you mean Panasonic instead of Toshiba with that model #? Also the Toshiba Cinema Series model 27AF42. Are you really going to use PiP? I don't think its worth it...

Most definitly.... Also to Storm...yes its the Panasonic not Toshiba, I made a mistake. Also....yeah I guess I'll never need PIP... so essentially the Sony FS100 and FS200 is the same tv except the 200 has the PIP? I definitly want a TV with vertical compression for 16:9... some of the TV's did not have it advertised but I think I remember reading that alot of TV's had hidden setup menu's where you could activate it. In fact I think the older sony wega's could do that in the factory settings setup? Is the FS100 the old 27" wega model?

Panasonic is my choice. I have a 27SX11 and love it. Very vibrant colors, and i haven't had any issues.

Haha...well this TV will be going in my bedroom...so 27" is the biggest I think I can fit inside my room.
BTW, since I have Rossman's attention, either you or any other hot dealers have any advice on where to purchase the TV? I was thinking of maybe pricematching to Sears from bestbuy...hoping to get another 10% off by getting the gf to sign up for a sears card. I am also going to need a small TV stand....do BB or Sears, etc give any deals on stands when you buy a TV? (like throw one in for free? ;)) Any advice?

The Panasonic doesnt seem to be able to do 16:9 vertical compression for dvds....so I think I'm gonna go with the 27" Wega.
Will I noticed a big difference between a dvd player hooked up with component cables and svideo cables?

i chekced all these tv's out before i bought mine.

i initially bought the sony.

it is way big. and the colors did not look right in my room

so i returned it and got the panasonic tau.

it's smaller size, and it is very nice. it has more outputs too.

i like the tinted tube, the colors look better, and it's black and matches my crap.

And another, even cheaper: Link

You really should consider this advice, shurato.

They aren't any more expensive than the higher end Wegas, and they are far more future proof.

Plus, your DVDs will look that much better.
