Val, lots of info here ftom all these responses on the tech stuff and what to buy, as for where to buy in addition to amazon and newegg, check out Tiger Direct.com. They are based in Florida, and ship from there, you will save on sales tax if you live outside of Florida, Problem with Amazon and Newegg, they're more of a clearing house and whatever you order, if it's shipped from a retailer within your state, you will pay the applicable sales tax. you can save a few bucks this way and put that money towards your build. ON that note, is there any noticeable difference between the 256bit memory bus on the 7870 and the 356 on the 7950 for just everyday usage?

Thank you for the heads up good sir, I think I might switch to GTX 660, I've been doing some research and read that it's better and pretty much the same price as the 7850

I probably won't invest in a solid state drive even though it might serve me better in the long run, but id rather invest that portion into a better gpu or CPU, HOWEVER, if I do end up below my budget, I will definitely look into the ssd you recommended 😀
 
I'm still unsure as to which motherboard will be efficient at overclocking the fx 6300 and will fit into my budget, the 970A-DS3 was mentioned earlier, will it do the trick?
 
That AMD processor is gonna start choking in a year or two and then she'll want to switch over to Intel anyways. My advice is to start on the better platform, that's the Intel platform.

As someone currently gaming on a q6600 I have to disagree, that AMD will do fine in gaming for at least 4 years. Unless she expects to play every new release at ultra settings and full AA but she would need a better GPU for that anyway.

Noting you're leaning more to the GTX 660, for a video card, check this one out:

That's a good price for a good card anyway, and then there's a $20 MIR, and your choice of $21 off a cheap Cougar case ($29+$5s&h), or $16 off of 2x4GB Crucial RAM.

Also, if you go with the Corsair CX500, note that it has a combo for $10 off of a 1TB Seagate HDD.
 
Just thought I should point out that the previously listed builds don't include a monitor.

Do you already have one? Or were you planning on hooking the PC up to your television?
If not, you'll want to either scrounge up an additional $100 or so for a half way decent monitor.

*facepalm* second time youve asked that.

For the second time, it's not about watts, it's about how good of a psu you buy, and I will direct you again to the power supply section of this forum. There are stickies there that will help you with every detail.

Okay, maybe I shouldn't have said "any." I meant any non-overclocked single-GPU setup. Even then, there's headroom for a small (10-20%) CPU overclock at least.
