*1.5* Mainstream: Rap, Hiphop.. none in particular.. Jay Z.. whatever..

look for some Aphex Twin: some of his stuff is really experimental, and analog, but if you like random beats he's excellent. Also, for relaxing purposes, look into his "selected ambient works" volumes. they are perfect for studying, or trying to fall asleep.

another vote for Red Jerry. look for Lustral - Everytime (Red Jerry's mix)

look into MFG, Infected Mushrooms, or Astral Projection. they are always a nice classic to listen.

also, try Dj Shadow. he's awesome.

(But then agian u can use those words to describe all electronica genre)

Some of the DJs I know who produce their own music are inspired by the Greek composer, Vangelis. Vangelis invented trance as far as I am concerned: he wrote music for "Blade Runner," "1492: Conquest of Paradise," and "Chariots of Fire" among others.
