the Quattro gives me a NOTICABLY closer shave than my current Mach 3. i think im going to try the Fusion out, im more interested in the sinm interested in the single blade on the back. but i am really intersted in the power feature of it.

i shave about once a week, and should probably shave uch much more recently than that but i dont. the mach 3 really misses my chin a lot and i shave pretty well.

Many find Williams mug soap to be a bit drying, if that is the case for you, I would look for Surrey shaving soap at the drug store. Nivea Sensitive Aftershave Balm is also excellent as an inexpensive moisturizer, and contains no alcohol!

I picked up some of the new Gillette Fusion HydraGel shaving gel today.. I will shave with this stuff tomorrow and post if it helps or not. It does smell nice.
 
Anyone have any sugguestions for me for ingrown hairs on my neck? I have very thick facial hair and using a mach 3 razor only lasts me about 3-4 shaves tops. I've tried a couple lotions that are supposed to help but none have worked so far. Have any ingrown hair products worked for anyone else?

I love mine, it causes less cuts with me and does not irritate. I am using the extra sensitive fusion shaving gel too. The trimmer option is fantastic for under the nose and sideburns. Plus I got the 8 pack of cartridges on a mismark for $18 😉

Multi-blade cartridges are probably your worst enemy. Also, poor prep can be a downfall. First, shave after you shower, and shave everyday. With a thick beard, you may want to try applying hair conditioner to your face while you shower. This will soften your beard. Before applying your shaving cream/gel, apply a hot, wet towel to your face a couple of times for at least one minute each time. I would suggest getting a DE from either Classic Shaving or QEDUSA. Either the HD Classic or the adjustable Progress. Second, be sure you understand your beard growth pattern. You'll want to be sure that you are shaving with the grain. Do you lather up once and quit, or do you shave with multiple passes lathering in-between? To clear up those ingrowns, buy St. Ives Exfoliating cream at Wal Mart. Less than $3 bucks. Use it at night. For the next week, shave only with the grain. After a week you should see a difference. Now add a second pass...shave with the grain, re-lather, and shave across the grain. Give it a week. The ingrown's should be gone by now. And finally, add a third pass. Lather up and go against the grain for a complete smooth shave, and no bumps or ingrowns.

Pick up one of the Merkur razors, a quality shaving brush (you'll spend from $50-70 for the brush) and some quality shaving creams such as Taylor of Old Bond Street or shaving soap such as the QED soaps at QEDUSA. If this sounds like a pricey investment, figure replacement blades at $1.36 for 10 at Wal Mart vs. cartridge replacements at $3-4 each for the next couple of years. There is a proper way to shave rather than dragging cheap plastic over your face. Your face will love you for it and your complexion will improve, which the ladies will love. And so will you. Acutally I am a member over at smf 🙂 for soap I use the c&e soap however will switch to cream I think as the soap doesn't later as I would like, the brush is a Muehle. Thanks
 
Since they had it on sale, I decided to try one out.

Type: Mach 3 Fusion, Non battery version
Setting: Hot shower
Hair length: 2 days worth (gotta grow it out a little on SB weekend!)
Shaving gel: Edge.
Final result: it isn't as good as the original Mach 3 (my favorite).

It was a little painful shaving with the grain because some of hair would catch on the extra blades (felt like it was yanking it off my face, kinda painful), my Mach 3 would have handled this with ease b/c of less blades.

Going against the grain after shaving with the grain to chop it down a bit, it provided a very close shave (slightly closer than the regular Mach 3), but it took me a bunch of swipes (probably about the same, if not more than my regular Mach 3).

All in all, it's better than the M3 Turbo (which I think is the worst one ever) but not better than the original. My suggestion is to save your hard earned money and just stick with the regular M3 cartridges (I usually get em on Ebay for <1/per, which includes shipping).

Hmm, mines not a power one, and I didn't use any shaving cream, just a water shave. No irritation at all, and the smoothest shave I've ever had.
 
just shaved with the fusion power. worked pretty good. would i say give up your mach3turbo for this? no.

nothing super better. just neat.

Are you serious? I get ingrown hairs too, so that's a concern for me. Is there any data to back up what you are saying?

I think that the idea of using multiblades is that after a blade cuts a hair, the hair is pulled out slightly and sits higher out of the skin for a short amount of time. So the first blade cuts and raises the hair and the second blade comes in and cuts the hair again before it retracts. Gets you a closer shave but supposedly it can make you more susceptible to ingrown hairs.
 
Born2bwire is quite right, quite right indeed. I suggest purchasing a fine, badger hair shaving brush, Merkur double edge razor, and English cream to start out with. I also recommend doing business with Charles at qedusa.com. He is a fine gent, very helpful and will promptly answer any questions you have regarding shaving and specialty loose leaf teas. Speaking of which, I am enjoying a cup of Jasmine Silver Needles I purchased from him right now this very moment. His prices are also very reasonable, although sometimes I feel quite the plebeian for saving so much money by doing my shaving business with him! Should you dispose of the modern, ugly, effeminate cartridge razors of today, and switch to a fine shaving instrument that takes a real blade and badger brush, I firmly believe your morning shave will go from a chore to be rushed through to a luxurious, relaxing experience, instilling you with a pluperfect imperturbability you gents have yet to experience in your lives as men, yes yes!

You more-or-less have it. Ingrowns and "shave bumps" occur when tough whiskers are cut too aggressively by modern mutli-blade razors, causing them to grow back underneath the skin. Switching to a DE and using a shaving brush to gently scrub the skin and prep the whiskers will clear up skin and make shaving a pleasure again.

The GREATEST Product of Marketing I have ever seen/used.

Just used for 1st time ever, and really it is no different than Mach3 Turbo. If anything, its more annoying since the damn thing vibrates when I use it, and because of this, it?s very difficult to tell how much pressure I'm applying while shaving.

I'll give it a few more tries, but I'm not optimistic. In due time it will go right next to the Mach3 Power razor I used once or twice and never since.

Ahhh, that male herd mentality lives on! Thanks Gillette! I'll hit you guys up when you come out with the next marketin.....er....'system' in 2012 that only has a puny 9 blades.

Every electric I've ever used always gave me a closer/"better" shave. That's because they cut in all directions. And since my face cannot handle being cut against the grain, baby-butt smoothness comes hand-in-hand with serious irritation and bumps from in-grown hairs, and thus rashed areas that end up looking like acne.

After reading that MSNBC shaving article, I went and yesterday got myself a Merkur Futur DE razor, badger brush and soap from a shop (took a little while to find one). It'll take a little while to relearn how to shave, but my first shave was at least as close as my Mach3s ever were.

...though my adam's apple looked like I tried to commit suicide 😛
