You know how Big Blue is - they'll rumor all day long. But it seems the rumors are often true (like Billy G being gone). Funny about Donovan because I work in Lexington and most everybody I've talked to says they don't want him - "not successful enough"!

Ya, it's the constant rumors and insanely gullible crowd over at Catspause that does not help the public perception of the UK fanbase.

However, there have been a few ESPN and CBS guys who already are saying they think Calipari will be our next coach, but their guesses are as good as ours.

so who are they looking at getting?

- Izzo of Michigan State left the door open, but also said there was much more he wanted to accomplish at MSU.

I can tell you now, Izzo will not be leaving. Not only has he repeatedly said that MSU is where he wants to be (He was offered two NBA coaching positions in the past few years, not to mention who knows how many NCAA coaching positions), but HE owns East Lansing. Hell, we have the "Izzone" student section. He's been here all of his career, and waited out while being an assistant to become head coach. We rarely ever have an assistant stick it out for more than 5 years, and Izzo was here for nearly three times that until he got the head coaching position. He's dedicated to us, and loves MSU. Not to mention, if he keeps winning we'll have a program that garners as much respect as UK in a few years. He's gotta screw up really bad to get fired from here. Not to mention he gets pretty much any recruit he wants in the Mid West.

Rumor mill on Calipari - met with players explaining UK situation.

http://www.commercialappeal.co...ayers-hints-departure/

"While Calipari did not say explicitly what he planned to do, players left the meeting convinced that Calipari would take the job. According to the source, Calipari told the team that Kentucky was the Notre Dame of basketball.
"

Or Calipari just using UK for leverage.

At this point, that's what I still think it is. However, if he actually did take the time to meet with UK, then there's probably more interest there. Otherwise, he could just tell Memphis officials that UK wants to talk with him, what are they prepared to offer him to say no thanks.

Coach Cal might make the move; he may have hit a plateau in his current spot. The lack of strong in-conference opponents will continue to hurt him if he stays in Memphis and while Memphis (State) is not without basketball history, only a few coaching seats approach the depth of Kentucky tradition.

It sounds like its going to happen. UK definetly doesn't want it to draw out like last time. He wasn't my first choice but if he manages to bring some unsigned recruits with him and we keep patterson and meeks it could be a nice year. If he can turn it into a team.

And UK will pay whatever they want to get a good coach. Money talks. UK has been losing their tradition of a top basketball program and they desperately want to regain it. From the school to the fans they need to get back on top.

Well, early this afternoon, a few sources popped up and said Calipari to UK was done. Then everybody recanted and said Calipari might stay in Memphis because boosters were raising some money for him. Now, in the past half hour or so, we've got 3 or 4 legitimate sources popping up again saying Calipari to UK is done.

If Calipari doesn't get anything signed before the night is out, I almost look for him to waffle on the decision tomorrow after waking up and thinking about it. I'm sure today has been absolutely insane for him and his family.

The news right now is Memphis has asked for and granted permission to talk to another University about their coaching position. I can't think of the school/coach right now. Missouri I believe it was.

Calipari Confirmed to UK

Heh - that's hardly "confirmed".

True. But Calipari is on a charter flight to Lexington. Reference my post earlier in the thread about UK willing to throw money at a coach. He'll be the best paid college coach ever (not just basketball).

I'm a CARDS fan myself but I'm happy UK got a quality coach. Hopefully this will bring the program back to where it belongs - on the same level as Louisville and other top programs. ;)

I think Henry is HIGHLY doubtful, but I think we have a shot at Cousins. But even still, we already have Orton signed, so if he doesn't change his mind, Orton, Cousins, and Patterson (assuming he stays, which I think he will) will all be stepping on each others toes for playing time.
