Gilbert Arenas had the chance to outbid Ecko to purchase the baseball, and he decided not to. Thus, he has no say in the matter. It's just cork, leather, and 108 stitches to sit and do nothing, it's not a house that provides shelter. Asterisk that ball then give it to some fan. Yeah, what does Arenas think a "fan" is going to do with an unbranded baseball? Put it back up for auction... and I know someone would have an extra $800k laying around...

Seriously, if an athlete's legacy is linked to a single item of memorabilia, then he has no legacy. And I guess that is what Gilbert Arenas feels of Barry Bonds?

You are over simplifying what exactly was said....

Did he use steriods? probably...

Did he come out and use the word steriods when he supposedly admitted using them--- NO!!

Peace!!

Didn't it go like this:

"The trainer rubbed something on my body."
"That was the cream and the clear. The BALCO founder pleaded guilty to distributing the steroid."
"I thought it was flaxseed oil, it was all confusing from the rage I was in when it was applied."

I see... you're going to defend him because he feigned ignorance. GG

It was a carefully couched way not overtly admiting it while at the same time not lying to a GJ. Sounds a helluva lot like "I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinski" "Depends on what your definition of 'is' is" etc etc etc... He did it. He knew he did it. He knew what he was taking. He used double speak to dance around it.

I can't believe that people still want to believe he was clean.

His Creatine analogy is faulty because it is not ILLEGAL in the US to use Creatine.

Bonds broke the US LAW by using Steroids which gave him an advantage over
other athletes in MLB. So technically, he didn't violate MLB laws so his record
stands but with an * because he cheated.

I wonder what Arenas would say if it were found out that Kobe used Steroids
on the night he scored 81 points. I doubt Arenas would be so magnanimous then!

Ummm... taking steroids the night he dropped 81 wouldn't have helped him a bit.

It's a systematic thing that builds you up over time... not a Popeye/Spinach thing.

well Arenas did not know this would be the outcome for the ball. He is trying to buy it back for what he deems is "wrong" to do to this piece of history. I don't care one way or another but I have to say Arenas writes very well.

ummmm...not that he injected himself in the locker room during half time...the hypothetical situation being that he had been using roids and was ON steroids the night of the game...

sheeeshhhhh!

Mr. Arenas, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Or at least, over the 40% of them who don't use steroids.:p

fixed.

The dude got caught cheating. Arenas' arguments suggest that two wrongs make a right, and that's not one bit true. The thing about baseball is that it's a gentleman's game. If you need to do something like this to gain a competitive advantage, you don't deserve to play against all the people who work their asses off for hundreds of games every season. He repeatedly says "alleged" and it's not alleged, it's true. He repeatedly says "What if they make such and such illegal tomorrow" but the problem is that steroids were ALREADY illegal when he used them. He broke the record of a man who truly worked his way to the top and DIDN'T use steroids to get there. It's not so much about the fact that Bonds is a cheater (and he is.), it's about the fact that he's belittling everyone who ISN'T.

Cry all you want, but what Pete Rose did wasn't even this bad and he's banned for life. Bonds can deal with a fucking asterix because lord knows that Pete would love for it to be "Just an asterix".

Bonds deserves all of the astericies that can be put in any statement about him.

Edit: and for the record, I think Marc Ecko is a douchebag, but this dispute isn't about him.

Bonds gives Basbeall a bad name. Him, mcguire, sosa, etc... should nto be in the HoF and any/all their records should be tossed.

I agree with almost everything he says.

Ecko is a douche bag.

I don't see why it matter too much though... just put #757 in the Hall of Fame.

You had the chance, Gilbert, to put your money where your mouth now is. You didn't, so please spare us the "poor Barry" argument.

exactly. if he wanted the damn ball he should have bid on it to begine with. Not now when he knows the guy is not going to sell it!

#757 really is of no historical significance... 755 is, 756 is, and the last one he hits is.

Mark Ecko should put two asteriks; the first for bonds steroids and the second for arenas being an incredible dipshit.

WTF! I don't watch baseball, my only contribution to this thread was to attack Arenas's writing.

He writes very well?

on that we can agree.

i don't live too far from Cooperstown, been to the BHOF quite a few times. getting to see the tainted record baseball will be worth another trip there for me.

sure.... Bonds didn't do 'roids, and OJ didn't kill his ex wife and Ron Goldman. some people are so frickin pitiful.

i can see it now, down the road, when Bonds needs some cash, he'll write a book about how he used steriods, but will say it's not admitting to anything and title it: "IF I HAD JUICED"

Gilbert Arenas is pure comedy ... I love that guy. As for his arguments ... I don't really care what happens to a baseball. It was the act of hitting the ball, not the ball itself that should be the issue. I mean, isn't the bat/uniform/shoes/jockstrap/cap etc. as important as the ball was?

Those who said Gilbert should shut up because he had a chance to bid on the ball ... that is true, but it still makes for funny reading, even if Agent Zero has some grammer difficulties. :D

too bad we'll have no idea which ball is the last one he hits.

they stopped switching out balls to numbered ones after 756. For all we know this could be his last year. If he demands tons of money no one will pay for him.
