Those pics are amazing. They should make a wallpaper size.

That is one of the most amazing sites I've seen. This must be how the government spies.

Computers went from megahertz to gigahertz. I guess there is no reason not to assume that digicams will evolve the same way.

Someday we will witness the horse race between Nikon and Canon and Sony as to who will be the first to 1000 megapixels.

the 2.5 gp is pretty impressive...you can zoom in on a car that is maybe 8X10 pixels to begin with and read the license plate...wow

It's just a panoramic though, it has all kinds of nasty artifacts in it.

The 2.5GP one was better.

Still, pretty neat.
The 2.5GP one was crappy because the subject sucked, and there were tons of stitching artifacts (which could have been avoided if there was a human actually paying attention to what was being shot). It was still interesting as a proof of concept, I'll grant you that.

so that is actually just a camera with a good quality film and a good scanner?
I can shoot "good quality film" (Fuji Velvia 100F for example) in my 35mm camera, and won't get anywhere near that level of detail (the frame might have between 10 and 14 MP of usable data, depending on lens quality and technique). What matters most here is the freakin huge sheet of film (9" x 18" IIRC without reading the site), moreso than the size of the grain thereof (though that does factor into the equation, it is not a major factor of enlarge-ability at this film size).
