Gigabyte UD3* and Freq Latch and Strap

First off, I apologize for the rather dumb question. I've tried changing the values of Freq Latch and Strap but nothing seems to change the ratio as shown by CPU-Z.

I'm trying to find the highest oc on my Q9550 with my G.Skill DDR2 800. Right now, the G.Skills are doing DDR970 @ 1.9v and so far is passing tests.

I did 500fsb which pushes the RAM to 1000Mhz and maybe that's causing the hanging of XP once I start running Prime/OCCT/IBT.

So to take the G.Skills out of the equation, I was hoping to get it down to spec or even underclock it. But .................... no matter what I do to the settings in the BIOS, it doesn't change the ratio, it always shows up as 1:1. I'm sure I'm missing something and/or doing something wrong but I just don't know what.

Can anyone with the UD3* mobo please show your settings to force a different ratio for FSB:DRAM so the RAM will run close to 800Mhz, considering my fsb is 500Mhz.

Thanks in advance.

Not possible.
Lowest ratio you can run is 1:1, whether on the 400 strap (2.00D), or the 333 strap (2.00B)

Getting a quad truely stable at 500 FSB could be a challenge; it's a ton of stress on the board.

But with some luck & the right VTT + GTL & MCH + GTL settings, it might be doable (assuming your RAM can do it)
I'd check out the threads on XS & OCN.

Tons of info & settings in those threads.

Hope you have better luck that i have with the board...mine's been incredibly frustrating for me.

Thanks n7.

It's been fun oc'ing the Q9550. Never expected it would go as high as it has. Being a noob at overclocking, this forum has been extremely helpful, and of course, hardware that's cooperating is a definite plus.

I just did a quick 1hr run on OCCT at 490x8.5 and it passed. Just the thought of having to mess with VTT + GTL and MCH + GTL makes me think twice LOL :)

And, my RAM must be working really hard now at 490Mhz so there has got to be a point of diminishing returns on the hardware pieces.

Sorry to hear about your not-so-good luck with your board.

I'll check out those 2 threads you referenced above. Thanks again.

What voltages/settings are you doing to hit 8.5x490? :Q

Right now it's set to 1.350v in the BIOS and 1.328v actual. I have LLC enabled and looking at OCCT's graph after 1hr, it did not change at all except for 1 spot where it dropped to rather scary level, 0.8v. I don't think the C2Q will even run at that less volts :(

Gonna run it through Prime overnight. If it at least goes 8hrs stable, I'll keep it :)

Here's a screenie while doing OCCT showing various settings/sensors
