Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 OC vs Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC?

Hi everyone, Im still selecting the components for a new gaming pc and I have yet to settle for a graphics card, Im a total noob to be honest and I cant decide bewteen these two. I would go for the saphire but The store doesnt know when they are going to be available, while I could by the gigabyte one right away.

Which one is better? the saphire being 10 euros more...

Also, I have read about the gigabyte model having a high number of cards being defective, is that true?

thanks

The Sapphire is the best non reference 290 out there right now (and I've tried several). The heatsink and VRM cooling is excellent and the cooler is quiet. Not to mention the nice stock overclock.

For gaming the Gigabyte model should be fine, it runs a lot noisier than the Sapphire Tri-X and temps are not as good, but its an improvement over reference.

Me, I would avoid Gigabyte and ASUS R290/X, their coolers are not designed for R290/X (they took a design meant for gtx780/ti and threw it into R290/X), the heatpipes do not function optimally due to poor contact. Until they get off their lazy rear ends and do a version 2 with better heatpipe placement, go with Sapphire Tri-X, or MSI Gaming or even XFX DD, which all keep temps lower at much less noise.

I have a similar dilema. Except here. The Sapphire 290 costs the same as the Gigabyte 290X.

But I am running 2 cards in my 750D and I don't know if the Gigabyte cards will stay cool enough not to throttle.

Gigabyte has a 3 year warranty, 2 years for the sapphire is just so short....

Buy it with your AMEX, then you have 3 years warranty. Or other credit card with warranty extension.

3 years is an eternity for video cards.

Not true about the Gigabyte. That was a pre-launch issue only. Their heat sink supplier sent them the wrong heat sinks and they didn't notice until the cards were shipped out.

The Sapphire Tri X is the best OCing available 290 mostly because it cools the VRMs well. The Gigabyte is also pretty good.

If you want good OC potential the only "safe" bet is the MSI Lightning 290X. It is guaranteed hynix or samsung and should be good for 1150-1250 on air.
