omg! lol soo ok ... i got a new intel system ok. So i thought i'd be nice and sell my bro my old stuff at super low cost. Well i get it all together turn it on and about to load on win xp right. Blue screen of death. SO i'm like ok my board or ram is bad. But i had an i dea. I thought to try my ram ok. I popped in my ram turned it on. and lol omg dude! it started smoking. it wasn't my ram i put in there because i sniffed the ram and it was fine. NO burnt electronic smell. Of course i turned it off real quick. I take the cpu out think the core is fried. nope the AMD core is intaked. No burnt marks or anything. The was around the northbridge - chipset cpu area though.

It's not the cpu because i popped in my duron and no boot it turns on and stuff though. The athlon it wouldn't even boot up with that. But i was still getting a faint smell from the board though!!!

Looks like the board is shot! Gigabyte peice of crap! I'm not gonna blame AMD on this one although they could make it easier to put the fans on and off though like the intel's.

ahh oh well my bro gets his k6-2 500mhz back.

Mean while my intel is running ok right now. My video card is bad thanks to the gigabyte POS. So i get blue screens and errors once in awhile. I swear i think the AMD gigabyte board damaged my video card!

But my question is, is it possible for the AMD core to fry up in smoke like that and not have any burnt marks or melting going on?

thanks!

Gigabyte peice of crap!

I understand you so well! Gigabyte moboards are crappy, and they suck. Now, having been ripped off by Gigabyte, I trust only Intel and (maybe, but still doubt very much) ASUS moboards.

every gigabyte board i've ever had worked great. i've never fried a cpu before, but i almost fried my ddr once. and yes it did smoke, and melt part of the dimm slot.

nope it's not the DDR because the dimm slot is not melted or anything. If it did fry there would have been a burnt smell. The burnt smell was coming from the motherboard north birdge cpu area like i said.

umm.... Every Gigabyte board I've come across has been awesome. They _ARE_ very reliable boards. I used to use them in systems I built for other people because of thier reliability. I've never had a Gigabyte based system come back. Asus, MSI and Asus are usually good for a RMA.

You get what you pay for, the only gigabyte I've owned sucked horribly, I hated it to death. But it was cheap.

Do you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard? Are you using safe settings in your BIOS setup?

It could be a bad board though - just RMA it and try another if it still doesn't work.

? ... would you like me to speak like you? Sorry if i don't speak so "Normal". Considering hitler hasn't ruled the world i think we have the right to speak in any way we feel with out fear of being ridiculed. Here's an idea! umm grow up and just ignore it? thats what most mature people do, not ridicule them for who they are.

Unless you're a racist then in that case the hitler comment would apply to you.

Offended? Good, becausey you offended me.

good day

To make a statement that gigabyte sux is wrong many people have great success with there boards , just because you did not is no reason to imply ALL there mobo's suck , thats childish. :disgust:

I just got a GA-8IHXP (850e) and so far i have had absolutely no problems with it and it performs awesome. It has more features than any other 850e mobo (850 too) and even has a ICH4 southbridge which supposedly doesn't work with the 850e northbridge, but so far i have yet to have a problem with the mobo.

Gigabyte boards rock.

Bad luck, that's all. Stop bashing Gigabyte like a damn idiot, they're a pretty good company imo.

I think you guys are being kind of harsh on him .. he talks funny, big deal. He had a bad experience with his Gigabyte and doesn't like gigabyte anymore, most people who have a bad experience with a product usually end up disliking the name, that is why everyone on this board has different likes/dislikes with all mobo manufacturers and everything else.
xxsk8er101xx: You just gotta chill a bit, people here take it very personal when you don't like their favourite product.. you'd think they owned Gigabyte stock or something. About your funny talking, I see a lot of that and it doesn't bother me, talk how you want, just talk legibly.

And for those who bashed him;
He's obviously younger than you, do you get off on making fun of kids?

hmmmm .... i am chilled?

i'm not getting it. I have not said "All gigabyte boards suck" i said "gigabyte peice of crap" ... just a frustration.

I don't quite understand my harshness anywhere?
