Here is the background. I have been having intermittent problems with my USB on this motherboard. I think the problem is the motherboard itself, but that's where I'd like some input.
A couple months ago, my internet connection would started going in and out (USB wireless G), then within a few days of that, my keyboard and mouse started intermittently not working (Logitech G15 and Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0). I messed around with drivers, bios, installed a different OS... no difference. So since the USB NIC was the first thing to show signs of problems, I though maybe it was drawing to much current, so I replaced it with a pci nic. The problem with the keyboard and mouse then diminished to about once per week, upon which time I'd have to reboot the computer.
When the keyboard goes out, the backlight usually stays on, but not the lcd and not the numlock, capslock buttons... and no keys will work on the keyboard.
When the mouse goes out, sometimes it is complete (no lights, no movement) and other times the optical light stays on and I can track the mouse, but the buttons don't work.
Well today, the keyboard works about 15-25 seconds of every minute, then goes out, then comes back on in a little while. The mouse goes out, but when it does, I have to reboot. So I'm typing this on a really old ps2 keyboard and using a mouse that has an actual ball in it
can you imagine such a thing?
I'm running the f12 bios now (up from f10) with the same issues. No other USB devices are plugged in and it doesn't matter if I use the USB ports on the back or the front header. I've run knoppix to see if it's a vista problem, but I get the same problems with knoppix.
I don't know if it matters, but I'm not overclocking (e4300, 2 gig SuperTalent ram, x1800 video), and I've tried increasing the voltage to the board with no improvement.
If I do need a new motherboard, what is a good current motherboard to get as a replacement, or should I just get another DS3 r3.3 so I can just drop it in without reinstalling anything?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give,
Jim
