Gigabyte P35 - second PCIEx16 makes the PCIex1 unavailable ?

I read in the manual (GA P35 DS4) :

When the second PCI Express x16 slot (PCIE_16_2) is in use, the three PCI Express x1 slots become unavailable.

If I populate the PCIE_16_2 with a x1 card (NOT VGA card), can I still get the three PCIex1 slots available ???

Thank you in advance.

bonanza,

If that's a quote from the manual, it reads like ANY card in the second x16 slot will render the three x1 slots unavailable. It doesn't say it has to be populated with an x16 card, so I'd say the x1 slots would be gone...

Have you tried it yet? If not, try it out and see what you get. From reading the manual, I just think if you put a card in the second x16 slot, the circuitry will usurp the x1 slots...

Thanks for replying.
I don't have this mobo yet. I like the features of this mobo, but since this issue is vital for me I have to look elsewhere.

Has anyone ever tried it ?

The only P35 board with 2 physical x16 (electrical x4) slots that definitely doesn't do this afaik is abit's IP35 Pro because it uses PCI LAN rather than PCI-E to avoid it.
It's possible that some boards may be able to set the 2nd x16 to just run at x1 though rather than x4.

Of course the IP35 Pro only has the x16, x16/x4 & 1 x1 PCI-E slots.
