Yeah you read it right i was stupid and lesson learned :p

Now i gotta put in my other 6 gigs of ram and up the voltage on the board to the ram -- should be fun :)

And maybe later OC my cpu to about 2.8 Ghz.

Questioin if I up the voltage to the memory will that increase my cpu temps??

Thank!

If you'll be at 4 dimms (don't quite understand adding 6GB...but...:)) you may experience stability issues so get ready to up the volts a bit on the memory. I've seen people that ran fine at 1.8 with 2 modules need 2.1-2.2 with 4. Just a warning, as it doesn't apply to all boards with 4 dimms, just something I've seen many times.

With decent air in your case you shouldn't see much of an increase if any. That chip should hit 3ghz on air pretty easy and that's easy to set up :) Just a difference of flopping it on 1333fsb and adjusting the memory accordingly.

I ran Prime95 last night for about 7hrs

Got 0 warnings/errors.

Max core temps at 100% load:
Core0 60 c
Core1 60 c
Core2 55 c
Core3 55 c

Are these average temps at 100% load?
could i OC my cpu to 3Ghz with these temps safely?

I use the extra memory for 3D animation/rendering.

Thanks guys.

Are those small FFT temps? And on stock clocks?

If this is true then yes they seem high to me, but yes you have headroom to overclock.

So long as your loaded temps are <70C you are technically OK. Folk's comfort levels tend to shy away from such hot temps, but throttling doesn't set in until the mid to upper 80's for a reason.

What you don't want to find yourself doing is shoveling >1.5V at the chip just to get it stable while operating in such a hot environment. So if you can do say 1.4V at 70C then you are fine, maybe uncomfortable but the chip will be fine by Intel's standards.
