Gigabyte Onboard Sound Problems

I have a Gigabyte K8NS Pro skt754 motherboard, Athlon64 3400+, 1gb Mushkin PC3200, ATi x800 XT AIW. On my motherboard i have onboard Realtek AC'97 audio. However, it will not play audio through any speakers or headphones i connect. With "jacksense", its auto detect for plugging in audio devies, it tells me that my speakers are not connected properly. However, I have tried 2 working headphones, 2 working speakers and none of them work on my ssytem. I downloaded the latest drivers on Gigabyte and still, it does not work. How can i fix this without buying a new sound card?
Thanks
Edit: BIOS settings are set for onboard sound. There are no jumpers to saet for audio on the mobo.

My very first question would be, are you sure you are plugging speaker cable into the correct motherboard jack !!!

The correct jack is green.

Also check your sound card manager's settings to make sure you don't have the analog audio output jack disabled and the digital output jack turned on.
