Gigabyte on board LAN problems. EDIT ***Fixed***

New install, trying to use on board LAN on a gigabyte mobo. XP didn't install the driver so I used the mobo driver off the cd. Double checked it's Enabled in BIOS. LAN led flashes green a few times then amber. I have tried two cables and my internet is fine.
Could the on board lan be bad?
any ideas?
 
I have the same board except mine is a rev 1. Shows a link light in the back but Windows says it's cable is disconnected. Tried new drivers and even formatted another hard drive I had laying around wtih a new OS and does the same thing. Still need to get a replacement for it from Gigabyte.

As for your problem are you getting an IP address or is it coming up with the autoconfigure address (168.x.x.x)?

Interesting. So you have never been able to get the onboard LAN working at all? Did you try a pci ethernet card?
As far as the IP address goes, if I do ipconfig at a command prompt it just says Media Disconnected.
 
No mine was working for quite some time. We blew a circuit in my house and I didn't have the PC plugged into a surge supressor at the time. Roomate turned the circuit back on and the surge killed the NIC. I have since used a PCI NIC and it works fine.

When you plug the cable in the PCI NIC do you get a link light?

To be honest I can't remember. It did the same exact thing in Windows as the on board nic did. The message would pop up in the bottom corner that it was disconnected then it would go away for a couple of seconds and come right back.
I emailed gigabyte but I'm not sure how fast they will respond.

 
What is your computer plugged into? I had an issue with a gigabyte board not grabbing an ip address a few days ago.. it turned out to be the swich. It was an older bay networks baystack switch. I plugged directly into my lynksis router and it came right up. Also, have you tried an alternate network cable?

It plugged into an SMC router. I have tried three different cables.

After hours of troubleshooting I think your information was pretty accurate.
As I said I had the network cable plugged into an older smc barricade router. I know the router is functioning properly. I also have an 8 port switch plugged into the router. After trying everything in the world I plugged the cable into the switch and it worked perfectly.

So now I am going to just go ahead and get a new router. I'd like to see what a newer router will result in.
