i just got the gigavyte kn8xp - sli mother borad and set every thing up ... well here is where the probem starts.

i install the dvd rom sata drive and ide floppy and a 36gb wd raptor ... i boot up and at the first screen it says from ide 1-4 nothing is installed .. and then "checksum error"

so i go into the bios and see that i can select my floppy sl120 or my plextor as boot devices but not my wd raptor.... so i carry on. i boot from the xp cd and get to where it loads drivers from the cd to the hd thats ok then i get to where its going to load windows .. blue screens me every time at this point its "STOP:0x0000007b" and so on ... i tried to put the sata drivers on a floppy like i read on teh net and install them at the F6 promp with no luck .. any help? thanks

Have you tried removing the sl120? Is that one of those 120MB super A: disk drives? Those weren't well supported by industry. Maybe it's causing a conflict.

I wonder if one of your memory modules is bad or if you are running it out of spec (i.e. too fast or with too few latencies).

Also, I don't know that motherboard. Is IDE 1-4 you SATA drive, or are those your parallel IDE drives?

I think that the BIOS is reporting that you have no parallel drives on the motherboard (and that is correct). So IDE1-4 has nothing and that should be fine. Primary Master, Primary Slave, Secondary Master, Secondary Slave is all referring to the original IDE standard, which is parallel ATA.

But what about your DVD-ROM drive? Where is it connected?

Do you have a floppy disk that came with the Western Digital Raptor? Boot off of that and run some diagnostics on the hard drive.

You might have your floppy accidentally configured as a superdisk based on our earlier discussion. Make sure your floppy is a 3-1/2" 1.44MB diskette drive in the BIOS.

Good luck. I'm not sure what it up. Sporadic problems like this are often heat or memory related. But it is really hard to tell. I was basically just saying a lot of different things to see if maybe it would cause you to accidentally find the problem. :)
