i bought a gigabyte ga z68x udh3 b3 with a rebate and it won't post. everything is plugged in right, heatsink is extremely firm on the CPU, i turn it on and the colorful lights come on next to the RAM and then nothing everything happens. i checked and rechecked the plugs, i dunno what's going on.

I'm having the exact same problem with exact same mobo except no lights come on.
When i try to turn it on, all i hear is a short buzz in my PSU and thats it. nuthing else happens....

i just called the guy from microcenter and he said that the board wasnt compatible with the RAM i bought. he suggest that i get corsair Vengence kit 1.5v. I'm planning to go exchange my ram today to ill keep u posted on how well the swap works.

P.S. on newegg they say that vengence is the only qualified 1.5v XMP RAM for Core i3,i5,i7.

yeah, you can momentarily short the two (+ -) mobo power on pins carefully with a screwdriver
so, you are thinking your case power button is bad?

personally, I would repeatedly pull in and out the 24 pin atx connector and the aux +12V 8 pin CPU connector, after spraying contact cleaner in/on them - then blowing them off with air spray can.

Also make sure you are plugging in CPU fan to 4 pin cpu connector - not a 3 pin. The FAN doesnt have to be 4 pin - but the mobo connector you are using does

I would also take out CPU and look at ziff socket pins extremely carefully with a 3" round 5X magifier from dif angles to look for bent or missing pins

@ OP
Any time you ask a question like this it should be obvious to list your entire system. I would like to know what HS you are using - some backplates short out on mobo exposed devices/solder blobs

Still wanna know....................
What HeatSink you using?
What is your exact complete system?

i tried the vengeance, didnt work. i also tried a difference psu didnt work either. i stumped, so going back to microcenter to get new board. also my power button is definately working, as it was just before i swapped the board n cpu.

I was using the cooler master 212 plus with a push-pull, I had a fan speed increaser on the pull fan.

I don't think somethings wrong with the power button, I just don't want to use it. I'm trying to make the build as simple as possible, even sitting on top of the motherboard case running (so I don't have to press a button to turn in it on when it's like that).

Edit: Sorry for the delay, I didn't see your post. Sorry.

10 out of ten people accross several forums with fried boards had CM 212+. Could be coincidence - its cheap and popular, or perhaps a red flag.

Doesnt look like anything wrong with design, so I am just going to have to buy one to see if I can find a prob. The good thing its only $28 on NE FS.

The back plate must never touch any soldered component lead on circuit board, and dif models of same boards have dif trace designs to accomodate dif features. The HS must also not allow excessive squezzing of the 5 mobo layers. The HS backplate comes with a plastic insulator sheet down the middle, however this is of no use if the arms straddle two leads, shorting them.

The only thing I cant see is if the plated steel backplate arms actually touch the mobo.

@gaaraownzz
What HS?

i using a stock heatsink . i was planning on switching to my thermaltake spin q when i got it working to OC it but it's not running at all. I tried switching every, the mobo, the PSU, the RAM, The only this is the CPU. u guys think that might be the problem?

take the cpu out and look in socket for bent or missing pins
you do know if the factory heatsink isnt down correctly and flat, things will get very hot ver quickly
also the cpu fan mobo socket - 4 pin - must be occupied

no bent pins, ive remountd the cpu and installed my spin q hsf and its still not working.... i think it might be a bad cpu...... ive litterally tried everything besides swapping the cpu. ill buy anew on tomorrow. ill keep u guys posted.

I cant remember any new cpu being bad in any form post.
Did you must use a strong magnifier and a bright light when you checked those tiny triangles contacts on the LGA in the socket.
When I setup a new build I always put the mb on my desk top with a ps I dont put on any drives or case wires just jump the start pins to start.
