This is a new build with these specs:

Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000 Black Edition CPU
Zalman CNPS9500A CPU cooler
G.Skill F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ memory
Rosewill RX-850-S-B power supply
Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Samsung 22X DVD Burner Model# SH-S223F

I can not get this setup to start up. When trying to start both case fans and cpu fan will start for about 2 seconds and then everything shuts down. CPU, memory, power supply all test ok and run in other setups. Using onboard video until this runs. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have the exact same problem with a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R that I purchased a few weeks ago. In my case it would start for a few seconds and then turn off, but then turn back on and off again in a loop. I discovered two things:

1. I needed a fan plugged in to the CPU Fan Header on the motherboard for it to start.
2. Only once in maybe twenty tries would the CPU fan start. The rest of the time is was dead. When the CPU fan started, the computer booted up fine.

My conclusion was the board had a defective CPU fan header and I decided to RMA it. I have noticed by reading various forums and product reviews that I was not alone. Since I am not planning to OC the computer but I want it to be extra stable (it's a gift), I'm not getting another Gigabyte board.

Anyhow, if you didn't plug your CPU fan into the mobo directly, try doing that and seeing if it will boot. If the CPU fan doesn't spin, you have the same failure that I do.

Thanks for the reply. Wish mine would at least do that. This setup is only starting for a second or 2 and shutting down right away. CPU fan is plugged directly into the the cpu fan header. This board has never started at all unfortunately. I am sure this will turn out to be something simple if I can just get to that point.

I have an EP45-UD3P and i dont have my cpu cooler plugged into the cpu fan header on my mobo and it boots up just fine. But it sounds to me like you have a dead board, i hate to say it but that happens from time to time and RMA looks like your best guess. Also since it doesnt look like it will POST do you have a speaker plugged into your board so you can hear the beeps the machine is beeping? that is a way to find out why it wont post.
